Tasty Tapas And Sunset Sounds At Kasbah Posted on September 1, 2017 Words: Olivia Ebeling Images: La Skimal share this tweet this No matter how many times you have been to Ibiza, and regardless of how much the island has changed – and continues to change – one thing that will always be one of the most special things to experience is its incredible sunset. Add to that delicious food and great music, and you’re onto a winner. Kasbah, a boho chic eatery and lounge bar on the more tranquil end of San Antonio’s famous Sunset Strip, serves up just that with the breath-taking views to match. We enjoyed a relaxed dinner with friends on a Wednesday, when the venue presents its weekly live music set with singer and guitarist Karl Cosgrove. With its vast views across the sparkling sea, breezy terrace and relaxed shabby chic décor, Kasbah makes for a brilliant place to chill out over a hearty breakfast, laid-back lunch or sunset cocktails any day of the week. But the popular venue places great importance on its musical programming, too, offering its guests several fantastic live music shows and DJ sets throughout the week. On Thursday nights, diners can enjoy the atmospheric sounds of live saxophonist Ivan, while DJ Salinas spins the finest Balearic beats on Saturdays. However, as fans of acoustic music, we had chosen to come along on a Wednesday – not our first time, may I point out – to see Karl play. Securing a table on the front ‘deck’, where cosy loungers invite guests to kick back and enjoy the spectacular sunset views, we began our evening with a round of cocktails; a creamy and tropical Pina Colada, an exotic-flavoured French Martini, a classic Cava Sangria laden with fresh fruits and a potent G&T made with Gin Mare and the locally produced Botanik tonic, which gave the drink a delicious bitter and herby flavour. Drinks in hand, we toasted the sky as it slowly turned from gold to orange and pastel pink. Karl was entertaining his audience with an atmospheric set of classic covers perfect for the chilled out vibe of both the venue and the evening. His set spanned a wide range of iconic tracks such as Brown Eyed Girl, All You Need Is Love and Hotel California, his smoky voice doing these world-famous hits more than justice. When the sun finally dipped into the waves, Karl serenaded the terrace with Louis Armstrong’s What A Wonderful World and there wasn’t a goose bump left in the house that didn’t pop up! Following the mantra that sharing is caring, we had ordered a selection of six different tapas dishes, which arrived just in time to stave off the early evening hunger pangs. Our friendly waitress Laura helped us pick a selection that can be enjoyed by both meat lovers and veggies, advising on both the dishes as well as the number of plates we would need to feed us. The spicy chorizo sausages, which were served with crunchy toasted bread, became an instant table favourite and made a heavenly combination paired with skewers of roasted Mediterranean vegetables and squeaky grilled halloumi cheese. Classic Padron peppers disappeared in seconds, while fluffy patatas bravas in a tasty tomato sauce with a kick where fought over to win the last bites. We also shared a summery king prawn and mango salad, a feast of flavours and textures with creamy avocado, the delicate shellfish and the tropical fruit. Another instant hit, we also loved the garlic and herb mushroom which were oozing with aroma and served on crunchy slices of bread. Offering a mix of healthy and more indulgent options, with several vegetarian and vegan dishes available, Kasbah is a great place to come and dine as even the fussiest of eaters will find something on the menu. With the night descending over the island and all the food neatly polished off, we sat back with our full tummies and ordered a round of coffees to enjoy Karl’s music a little while longer. Whether you want to enjoy a romantic sunset with your loved one or are looking for an atmospheric place to fuel up for a night out, Kasbah offers plenty of ambience, delicious food and great music to showcase the best the White Isle has to offer.
