A fantastical fusion of music, art and entertainment, HEART Ibiza has offered an exciting alternative way to experience and enjoy the finest international DJ talent from the word go. Now in its third season, the state-of-the-art super club in Ibiza Town’s Marina Botafoch area is home to the otherworldly Saga concept, a perfect match of two brands that share a love for the unusual and theatrical. Presented by Brooklyn-based DJ duo Bedouin, the party has enjoyed huge success on the White Isle – and there is no sign of letting up as we approach the fever pitch of high season.

This Sunday, the residents were joined by turntable veteran Lee Burridge, a DJ, producer and record label owner largely associated with launching the underground club scene in Hong Kong during the early 1990s and who regularly jets across the globe to play at the world’s most happening clubs – another natural fit for Bedouin’s collective nomadic spirit. We could see a queue of very stylish revellers snaking outside HEART Ibiza’s doors from the second we turned around the corner of the five-star Ibiza Gran Hotel. The entrance had been transformed with opulent gothic decorations and a couple of the eccentric characters that awaited guests inside had snuck out of the club to give party goers a suitably curious welcome.

Stepping into the club, we were greeted by a moetley crew of fantastical figures, an odd troupe of a wicked magician, an eerie looking nun, a glamorous diva with an air of tragedy about her and French courtesans lounging decadently in front of the dance floor and toying with the passers-by. The venue was bustling with an incredibly cool and eclectic crowd, haute hippies dancing away next to suave international visitors to the island, completely immersed in the music. Lee Burridge was already in the booth when we arrived, which had been elaborately decorated with tropical foliage, candles and a bronze statue of a mermaid sprawled in front of the decks. He started his set on a hypnotic and deep, yet always upbeat edge, filled with emotive vocals. Exotic samples of drums and percussions created immersive soundscapes of deep jungles and South American beaches, taking the mesmerised clubbers on a musical journey.

Up on HEART Ibiza’s beautiful terrace, a night market was tempting revellers to add sartorial treasures such as kimonos, crystal jewellery or vibrant dresses to their Ibiza wardrobe, while a tarot reader was offering those brave enough to ask a glimpse into their future. A face paint station gave guests the opportunity to get involved in the theatrical vibe of the night with a bold new look, while a mezcal bar offered up potent concoctions as an addition to HEART Ibiza’s craft cocktails.

As the night headed into the early hours, Bedouin took to the booth and went straight for the kill with a driving bassline enhanced with tribal drums that kept the energy in the room sky high. Cool and collected, the duo was working the room like a well-oiled machine, expertly navigating the decks together to show off their skills. As the night progressed, the pace was not letting up, and the crowd was lapping up every single expertly deep. Dancers in costumes that ould have come straight out of a Tim Burton movie fired on the masses, which were letting loose in front of the booth. The dance floor was pulsating right up until the last minute, proving that Saga is HEART Ibiza at its weird and wonderful, quirky and theatrical best.
