Such was the magnitude of Ibiza 2015 for Cream Ibiza, it felt that having one closing party just wouldn’t do it justice. In that spirit it opted for two, on consecutive weeks, when it invited some of the biggest DJs that have performed at the famous party over the years to drop in and deliver a fitting finale. Thursday September 17 was the second of the two and featured Paul van Dyk, Aly & Fila, Simon Patterson and Jordan Suckley in the main room, with Fatboy Slim, DJ Fresh, Disciples and Anthony Probyn looking after the Terrace.

Cream Ibiza has reigned supreme I Amnesia every Thursday for over two decades, it’s something you read constantly and accept, but stop and think about it for a second. This party has been packed and delivering an unbelievable atmosphere for longer than some of its current clubbers have been alive! Generations have witnessed the two rooms go off to a completely different sound, it has seen the island evolve dramatically during its tenure but it still consistently welcomes a capacity crowd and then makes it dance. One of the main reasons behind the continued success of one of the world’s most famous club brands, is its ability to recognise and embrace new talent. Throughout the years, it has maintained a policy of booking headline DJs but also supplementing them with the hottest new talent coming through. The result has seen many of the worlds bigger DJs getting their first break on the island playing for Cream.

The first of the two closing parties featured Cream favourites Above & Beyond and Duke Dumont, two contrasting but equally effective artists, underlining the diverse nature of the Cream Ibiza booking policy. As expected it was a roadblock and there were still people talking about it as we made our way in to say our final goodbye for the season for part two. Headlining the second finale were two DJs that have played a significant role in the evolution of Cream over the years, Paul van Dyk and Fatboy Slim, looking after the main room and the terrace respectively. Before either could plug themselves into the system there were a host of talented DJs who all delivered, setting the mood perfectly for the main protagonists. There is really not much that compares to being in the centre of either room when it is properly going off and that is exactly what was happening as Cream delivered a reminder to all and sundry as to why it has been one of the most successful parties for over twenty years.

Paul van Dyk is surrounded by a plethora of technological devices, keyboard, computers, controllers, everything he needs to work his magic on the floor. He remixes tracks live, he drops in live keyboards, he teases and nudges and moves the floor around like a puppet master and all with a giant grin on his face and the odd bit of jumping up and down! He has been a consistent resident in Cream Ibiza over the years where he has formed a bond with the partisan crowd as strong as any in cubland. He has an acute understanding of the Cream crowd, he challenges it week after week and more importantly, he drives it crazy. Talking of people that have an ability to drive a crowd crazy and you can’t ignore the man in charge of the Terrace. Fatboy Slim has a never ending energy for dance music that has seen him produce some of the biggest anthems as well as destroy dancefloors from all over the world, from the heart of a big sweaty venue to the middle of the Copa Cabana beach. Thursday saw him take the Terrace apart as Cream Ibiza signed off with the mother of all closing parties.
