Winter Is Warmer In Chiringuito Blue

After a summer season, where it feels like the entire island population has had its nose to the grind, dropping a few gears, exhaling and settling into a completely new rhythm in the winter is just what the doctor ordered. Waking up in December to brilliant blue skies and the perfect warmth from the sun delivers the potential of the perfect day. Add family and good friends and one of Ibiza’s idyllic destinations and there’s nothing that can wipe the smile off your face. Our latest adventure took us to Chiringuito Blue, the stunning Mediterranean experience located in Santa Eularia.

As a destination, Santa Eularia doesn’t grab the headlines that it should; it offers a spectacular coastline, a wonderful promenade, a huge variety of eating, drinking and shopping options and a reassuringly chilled vibe, throughout the year. The kind of attitude that comes from a place that knows exactly what it is. The town has evolved dramatically in recent years, with a selection of world class experiences popping up and it’s not finished yet. The W Ibiza will be opening in July 2019, directly behind Chiringuito Blue, which will be the official beach concept of the world famous hotel brand. Having spent the afternoon in the company of its attentive and friendly team, our surprise at how busy the venue was when we arrived is fully explained.

Cocktails

There’s something very satisfying, but not in a smug way, knowing you are on the beach, catching up with friends, enjoying mouth-watering cuisine in a fantastic venue, while most of the rest of Europe is hiding under layers of clothing or clinging desperately to umbrellas! Almost all of the restaurant tables were occupied, there was a healthy buzz of chatter and an effortless cool vibe going on as we relaxed in one of the comfortable sofa areas. Embracing the feel-good atmosphere, we opted for a round of cocktails while we perused the menu – the Magilla Gorilla, which boasts Zacapa 23 rum, Kraken spiced rum, homemade falernum, guanábana pureé, fresh lime juice, homemade banana and vanilla syrup; a Cool Skull, made with Don Julio Blanco, Don Julio Reposado, triple sec, Pino Mugo liqueur, lime juice, homemade orgeat and angostura and finally the raspberry, cucumber and mezcal sour, which is not officially on the menu yet but will be new for next year.

Chiringuito Blue is the perfect spot for parents that want to keep an eye on the kids but not spend all their energy doing so. The beach, directly in front of the restaurant, is a great place to hang out and where our son Raffy and his mates spent the afternoon but there’s also a corner inside the venue dedicated to the young team, so there is always plenty to keep them occupied. That left us relaxed and ready for our lunch. For starters we opted for Greek tzatziki, charcoal grilled aubergine with extra virgin olive oil, warm chickpeas, tahini and grated tomato and pita bread and, from the extensive salad section of the menu, a Balearic cherry tomato salad Gazpacho with toasted almonds.

The menu boasts a wondrous selection of flavours and textures. Created by master chef Haim Cohen, he uses only the freshest seasonal, home-grown and locally sourced ingredients resulting in a mouth-watering tapestry with something for every palette. Having made short work of our first course, it was time for the main event; from the main dishes, we chose the grilled seasonal vegetables with tahini and charcoal grilled red shrimp and from the sharing options, Araies, which is charcoaled pita bread filled with minced lamb and clams “a la marinera” with cherry tomatoes, white wine and parsley. There are a number of sharing options, which is the way lunch on the beach should be, family style! The food is impeccable, from presentation to flavour, the only thing that will disappoint is that your meal has to come to an end!

As we look around at the happy, smiling faces of people from all over the island, it’s hard not to feel blessed that Ibiza is our home and that we can enjoy such experiences. Christmas is definitely on the horizon but you could be forgiven for losing yourself in the afternoon and thinking it was mid-June! We brought our gastronomic adventure to a deliciously sweet conclusion with a dessert that you can’t find on the menu, a house special. Hot Chocolate craftier with home-made ‘Carpigiani’ ice cream and a selection of various toppings – from pistachio nuts to mini white chocolate buttons, crunchy granola, and crushed almonds!

As far as first impressions go, it doesn’t get much better! The genuine warm welcome on arrival, the attentive but not intrusive team, always ready to make sure your visit is the best it can be and the quality of the fare on offer makes Chiringuito Blue a real contender for our affections, all year round. There’s also a special truffle menu during the winter months, that we will be returning to try. Chiringuito Blue is open Tuesday to Sunday 12.00 until 19.00; Saturday and Sunday features Family Funday with Kids In Ibiza between 13.00 and 17.00 and on Monday it takes a well deserved rest. If you haven’t had the pleasure yet, get this on your bucket list but make sure you book in advance, this is already one of the busiest island destinations.
