Wednesday night saw the launch of the latest Seven Wonders of Sankeys, We Love. After dominating Sunday in Space for over a decade and a half, Darren Hughes and We Love decided to make the move along the resort to the more intimate space in Sankeys, an announcement that sparked interest on and off the island, with anticipation level rising rapidly towards tonight. We landed in the club at 1 and headed for the mezzanine above the Lab, where we had a great view of the room. The opening line up was outstanding with headliners Rudimental joined by Jason Bye, Kaz James and Angel Sanchez, to name only a few, all set to make their mark and get the new look residency off to a fitting start.

The Lab has a real warehouse party feel to it, the no fuss, minimal style with concrete walls, spray-painted to complete that underground, almost grungy vibe. There were no podiums for dancers or half-dressed girls walking about selling shots, it really is a heads down and dance club. The walls were mostly bare concrete, which had been spray painted to complement the underground, almost grungy vibe. It boasts three separate rooms, all of which have their own bar and DJ booth, and for it being quite early in the night, all three rooms were filling at a steady pace. T. Williams played the Basement until 2.30am. The London born DJ and producer had the place jumping with his mix of techno and house. The lighting and underground feel along with the low ceiling make for the perfect setting for a rave, it was clear everyone was having an amazing time.

I was most excited to see Rudimental. The English drum and bass band rocketed to the top of the charts in 2012 and since then have gone worldwide with their unique, energetic style. By the time they started, the lab was absolutely packed with clubbers eager to hear their set. Everyone erupted into dance when the climax of their ‘Not Giving In’ blasted through the famous VOID sound system. They played everyone’s favorite songs, ‘Waiting all Night’ and ‘Feel the Love’ and even had a live saxophonist which had the crowd mesmerized. Having caught Rudimental before, albeit on a much bigger stage where they can really go crazy, I knew what could happen, especially when I got my first look at the room. The Lab might have a high ceiling but once Rudimental got going, the atmosphere was electric. Used to a bigger, festival size crowd, they reveled in the intimacy and tore the Lab crowd to shreds, it was one of the most vibrant and powerful performances I have seen so far in my time in Ibiza.

The Terrace offers a chance to grab some fresh air in amongst the madness of each room, although, even that is now packed. We Love is one of those parties that you hear of from older family members that have been to Ibiza before you, almost a rite of passage for any clubber making their debut. It might not be in the same venue as they enjoyed, it might not even be the same night but the atmosphere that it generated on its Sankeys debut still gives me goosebumps! I had a fantastic night, Elena and Olivia in the VIP area couldn’t have been more attentive and the experience was incomparable to anything I’ve been to before. Sankeys is the perfect setting for those who want a no-frills night of dancing and authentic underground music with no distractions. It looks like it’s going to be a fantastic summer We Love Sankeys, we will definitely be back!
