The day when Luciano posted a picture of a black hat announcing the triumphant comeback of Vagabundos to Ibiza, was a revelation. The hottest ticket of old Ushuaïa, the hit of the Pacha programme, the widely and wildly popular world touring series of events epitomizes the festive and easy-going spirit of the island, and we all secretly suspected and hoped that one day they would be back. And so it happened: Luciano and the gang are taking over Space terrace every Sunday from June 7 till September 27. We visited the opening party and saw it with great satisfaction that the Vagabundos is still the same admirably extravagant crew.

The main point of attraction was the terrace, decorated as a true circus. The wall behind the DJ was draped with scarlet fabric with golden lights on it. The ceiling was turned into a red marquee, again with golden lights. This is by far the most intuitive décor for Vagabundos, and it’s funny that it didn’t appear anywhere earlier in Ibiza. A sumptuous bunch of red roses was put beside the DJ booth, and lanterns in the form of top hats were hanging from the ceiling. While Franco Cinelli was warming up before Amé, more and more people were joining the throng on the dancefloor. Amé started to play it airy, but in ten minutes went thunderous and switched to the trademark dreamy vocal tracks later on. Luciano appeared behind the decks closer to 4am to showcase the darker side of his sound, toying with the volume and emanating his irresistible charisma.

The main room opened at 1am and offered completely different vibes, more typical for Space itself rather than for Vagabundos stylistics. Multicoloured discoballs where hanging from the ceiling above the DJ booth, creating an impression of a starlit sky against the dark backdrop. Ernesto Ferreyra started with a pretty linear set that sounded brave and encouraging. Valentino Kanzyani and Javi Bora b2b Jose de Divina followed him. The Sunset terrace, which opened at 8pm, provided a more sophisticated soundtrack – which is no wonder given that it was ruled by Alfredo, David Moreno, Gianni Callipari, Ernesto Ferreyra and Igor Marijuan. Stilt-walkers, mimes and buffoons spent some time posing for the cameras on the sunset terrace and then set out to roam around the club. Just as we all have been longing for, they were handing out and throwing far in the crowd black top hats, that later will be brought from Ibiza to so many countries, spreading the freedom-loving ethos of Vagabundos all around the world.

The full line-up for Sundays in Space, distributed by days, are yet to be announced, but it’s already confirmed that there will be sets by Audiofly, DJ Sneak, dOP, Kenny Glasgow from Art Department, Monika Kruse, Len Faki, Mirko Loko and many more. The reunited Deep Dish will be taking over the main room on August 23 and September 13, which will be their only two appearances in Ibiza this summer. Carl Craig will bring his Detroit Love concept to the main room on June 14, July 12, August 9 and September 6, accompanied by such artists as Moritz von Oswald, Moodymann, Magda and Octave One. Of course, Vagabundos 2015 isn’t the precise copy of the events that took place five years ago. Since that time the island has changed a lot, every artist of Luciano’s team has progressed immensely in his or her individual direction, and the party crowd has acquired new tasted and habits. True vagabonds feel equally at home in any environment and feel the pulse of the moment – that’s why we love them so much.
