Since its inception a mere six years ago (has it really only been six years?!), Ushuaïa Ibiza has firmly established itself as one of the hottest clubbing destinations not only on the White Isle, but also in the world. Causing roadblocks in its home resort of Playa d’en Bossa from day one, the stylish outdoor party space seems to be getting bigger and better with each season that passes, keeping revellers as excited about dancing the night away in its breath-taking surroundings as they have ever been. And so it came as no surprise that, despite it being ‘only’ the end of May, the 2017 season opener was jam-packed with clubbers raring to welcome back their favourite Ibiza venue.

Under the motto Back To The Future, the killer line-up boasted sets from Paul Rodriguez, Francisco Allendes, David Squillace B2B Martin Buttrich, Uner, Eats Everything, Paul Kalkbrenner, Andrea Oliva and Steve Lawler, effortlessly mixing island favourites with international talent and Ushuaïa Ibiza veterans. Kicking off proceedings at 12.00 in the glorious Balearic sunshine, the al fresco party palace was positively heaving with happy clubbers when we arrived. The atmosphere was carefree and joyous, with Ushuaïa Ibiza fans visibly happy to return to their spiritual home after a long winter.

Looking out over the sea of dancing people in front of us, you’d have been forgiven to think it was July or August instead of the beginning of summer, with the huge stage completing the festival feel as the sun’s golden glow faded and gave way to Ushuaïa Ibiza’s world famous atmospheric lighting. With red and white lasers slicing through the darkening sky, Paul Kalkbrenner was holding court in front of a spectacularly mind-bending pyramid light structure that hypnotised us with its ever-changing colourful graphics and effects. Firing off driving and energetic beats, he kept the energy high as the island transitioned from day to night.

Ushuaïa Ibiza veteran Andrea Oliva was up next and greeted with blasts of fire and ice as he took to the decks in his homestead, warmly welcomed by a roar from the crowd. Within minutes, he had partygoers under his spell, playing an upbeat and infectious set that made it impossible not to let lose and dance your heart out. Accompanied by fierce dancers in slinky silver bodysuits and fantastical peacock headpieces, it was a show as only Ushuaïa Ibiza knows how to put on. Mixing hot new tracks with old school classics that spanned both the dance music and hip hop genres, the night was on fire as revellers showed off their best moves.

Sadly, Steve Lawler, a hugely popular member of the Ushuaïa squad, had not been able to make it over to the White Isle due to the flights chaos currently gripping Europe. Billed to close the night, it meant that Oliva was extending his amazing set to keep the party going, softening the blow for those who had been excited to see the international star DJ. With pyrotechnics and frosty steam blasted into the night in time to Oliva’s irresistible beats, the night culminated in a giant confetti explosion, proving once again why Ushuaïa Ibiza is firmly remaining at the top of the clubbing game this summer, and many more to come.
