From crew lunches during the busy days of the International Music Summit to pre-party drinks while we wait for the queues outside Playa d’en Bossa’s superclubs to go down, since Dunes Ibiza reopened its doors for the 2018 season, we have already dropped in on numerous occasions. But with a huge cocktail list, a tasty menu filled with international food favourites and – new for this summer – a beefed up boutique club, the trendy venue is worth an outing in its own right. And with a sizzling new music programme ready to lure you onto the dancefloor and keep you there until the early hours, we went along for a dinner and a dance to check out Peyton’s new monthly residency, ‘Sinners Got Soul Too’.

As one of the most iconic voices in house music and an island resident, Peyton Christopher needs little to no introduction in Ibiza. And, since his show-stealing stint on The X Factor in 2016, his fanbase has broadened even further. So for those who love his powerful voice and uplifting, empowering songs, watching him perform in the intimate surroundings of Dunes is a very special treat.

We arrived with plenty of time for dinner and wasted no time ordering a selection of cocktails from the vast mixology selection. The Tanit Beach, named after Dunes’ seaside sister venue just down the road, was a tropical dream in a glass with hints of passion fruit, blackberry, vanilla and pineapple, while the frozen Teatea Way reminded of us of a naughty ‘slush puppy’. And you can certainly never go wrong with a Mojito, right? Dunes’ take on the classic cocktail was given a fruity infusion with passionfruit aromas and a kick of spice thanks to a little ginger.

As the venue began to fill up, James Granger took to the decks, opening the inaugural Sinners Got Soul Too fiesta with an uplifting house music set on a disco tip that featured some truly irresistible classic tracks we couldn’t stop ourselves from swaying along to. Meanwhile, our host Peyton had arrived and went around the venue to greet his many friends and fans, taking his time to chat with the revellers right up until the last minutes before his set.

Meanwhile, we were kept entertained by the two huge sharing platters that had arrived on our table. Dunes Ibiza offers great value for money where not only quality but also portion sizes are concerned, and the generous dish over-flowing with nachos topped with tomatoes, onions, beans and spicy jalapeno peppers – not to mention the bowl of molten cheese to top it off with, and the trio of guacamole, Mexican salsa and sour cream that accompanied it – can only be described as eye-popping. Equally impressive, the ‘official’ Dunes Platter offered up mouth-watering treats such as juicy tiger shrimps served tempura style in batter, as well as onion rings, gooey mozzarella sticks, jalapeno peppers encased in a battered cocoon filled with molten cheese sauce, and chicken wings – perfect for when you are battling with a hangover or simply feel really rather hungry.

For our main courses, we opted for a range of super healthy and indulgent plates, including a doorstopper of a juicy beef burger topped with cheese and bacon and served with the fluffiest of fries, and a ciabatta style baguette filled with fresh tomatoes and thick slices of creamy mozzarella. It was a close call to choose a favourite, but if we absolutely had to call it, the quinoa and salmon salad just about had the edge. A light but satisfying option perfect for hot summer nights, it was jam-packed with both chunks of smoked and cooked salmon, bursting with vegetables and finished of with a flourish of avocado, red onion and a citrusy yoghurt dressing.

We ended our meal with a naughty selection of desserts that befitted the Sinners Got Soul Too spirit. A dense chocolate brownie was filled with crunchy walnuts and served with lashings of whipped cream and gelato, and, for our taste buds, the perfect addition of cherry and chocolate sauce. Meanwhile, the Dunes tiramisu was crafted from an even more indulgent recipe featuring coffee ice cream and a lush layer of mascarpone, with each one being freshly made to order rather than coming from a batch.

As you can imagine, by now it was seriously time to dance off some calories. Luckily for us, Peyton had appeared to lead us into a night filled with soulful beats and the finest in feel good electronica. Beckoning us with the words, ‘Welcome to church… Here, we love sinners!’ he launched into a powerful and emotive acapella rendition of Keep On Rising that had the hairs on our arms standing up. Without further ado, Peyton led us inside Dunes’ glamorous new boutique club with its sparkling wallpaper and backlit 3D effect mirrors, the first revellers making their way straight to the dancefloor. Sinning has never felt more fun!
