One Last Fling At Ocean Beach Ibiza

The season in Ibiza gets longer each year, and although it’s now October there are still a bunch of die-hard clubbing fans on the island, as well as holidaymakers here to make the most of the (intermittent) autumn sunshine. As you make your way along the promenade from Sunset Strip to S’Arenal there are still flurries of activity, with families and friends out and about and squeezing as much as they can out of the 2015 season. And nowhere is this more the case than at Ocean Beach Ibiza, which, although it’s packed every day throughout summer, beat all its own records yesterday with its season closing party. Yesterday the place was fit to burst with bright-eyed, bushy-tailed revellers, ready to say goodbye to their favourite pool party venue for one last time in 2015.

At the Ocean Beach Ibiza closing party there’s no sense of lamenting the onslaught of winter – here, it’s very much about celebrating the brilliance of the months that have passed. So instead of tears, there was champers, and instead of winter coats there were bikinis by the bucketload – and really, who’d expect anything less? It’s been another standout year for this venue – still only in its second – so its team has every reason to celebrate another run of incredible pool parties. And let’s be honest, there’s no better way to do that than with pomp and pageantry and a truckload of orange rubber rings.

Ocean Beach Ibiza really has nailed 2015 – there are the VIP beds, the cocktails on tap, the incredible food and an upbeat house soundtrack that makes it impossible for you to spend the day lounging on a sun bed. And it’s these things that draw the beautiful people to its door – the ones who rock cut-out swimsuits and teeny tiny trunks, the ones who make poolside glamour look as easy clapping your hands.

It’s a family affair at Ocean Beach Ibiza, so music on the day is being provided by the season’s resident DJs – there’s Tom Crane, Grant Collins, Giuliano A.L, Jason Bye, Marco Loco, Clara Da Costa and Sam Dungate, and they’re all spinning the tunes that have historically roused riots with clubbers over the summer. Nineties classics are given a bass-laden overhaul, and house favourites are reworked to fit the vibe of the day. Soaring vocals and bouncy melodies puts smiles on everyone’s faces, but none more so than Lovely Laura, who’s lowered into the pool decked out on purple sequins and giving her saxophone one last blast in 2015. It’s this moment that will keep clubbers warm in the cold of winter – this moment that they’ll forever associate with Ocean Beach. As Lovely Laura freestyles gleefully over the top of some tunes, Arte Volante acrobats twist and turn above her, and it’s a spectacle that won’t be easy to forget. As the sun dips behind the palm trees the party shows no signs of abating, with the crowd keen to soak up every last drop of the happy, summertime vibes. The action continues well into the night, until the curtain finally calls on the best pool party Ibiza has ever seen. But they’ll be back next year, bigger and better than ever, there’s no doubt about that.
