When Pacha announced the Steve Aoki’s Playhouse would move to Monday night for the 2015 season that left a space in the weekly schedule, that was quickly filled by Martin Solveig and the My House concept. Having appeared at the venue countless times previously as well as sharing a Saturday night residency last summer, it was time for the Frenchman to pick up the baton and run with his first solo residency and, as we head to Pacha to celebrate the final party, it’s fair to say his debut could not have gone much better.

Having made quite the impression at the My House opening party at the end of May, 2manydjs returned to Pacha alongside Maxine Hardcastle and British pop house duo Blonde as Martin Solveig got set to bring the curtain down on his Ibiza 2015. With the 80s neon pink and blue decor, Solveig brings the sound of future house to his band of loyal followers, a few thousand of who are packed into the famous venue one last time. Maxine Hardcastle is a talented DJ/ singer/ songwriter who is well known for her heavy basslines and vocal house remixes, she laid the perfect foundations for the closing party, warming the crowd up perfectly for Blonde.

There was a real 80s theme with dancers kitted out in headbands and lycra leotards as Bristol based Blonde dropped some delicious remixes of old classics, Crystal Waters ‘Gypsy Woman’ proving to be a hugely popular choice. The duo created a fantastic atmosphere as it dropped some crowd friendly house that really got the party going. Belgian mash-up masters 2manydjs played a big part in the opening fiesta, the party that announced the residency and went a long way to setting the bar for the summer. Bookmarking a spectacular summer the duo breezed through their set, packed with throbbing basslines, countless cut ups of classic tunes as well as some delightful new nuggets that tore the main room to shreds. Their festival-like set went down a storm, threatening the roof on various occasions.

Pacha committed to every aspect of the party, as it always does, the club decoration worthy of such an auspicious occasion, from the 80s inspired disco ball to neon signs and even a palm tree or two. Solveig is a producer that has an ear for an anthem, he has consistently delivered tracks that capture the imagination of the dancefloor and for his last performance of the summer, he was holding nothing back as he tore into the main room. Anthem after anthem seen the atmosphere reach electrifying proportions as he controlled the floor like a puppet master. Ibiza has a strong underground scene, with many of the venues showcasing the finest techno around but, for once, it was nice to have an element of fun in the mix as ear to ear grins were everywhere we looked. As with all good things, it came to an end and far too soon for all out liking but, as far as an appropriate end for a gigantic debut season for Martin Solveig, it was perfect.
