We are still in a state of denial that the first closings are really upon us already, ringing in end of a spectacularly busy summer on the White Isle once more. But, if we’ve got to wave goodbye to the season, we will do it in style – and not many people know how to it better than Hardwell! Armed not only with a set list packed with killer tunes but also heaps of enthusiasm, energy and charm, it’s no surprise that Ushuaia Ibiza chose the Dutch super star DJ to headline the closing party of its Limited Edition Concept.

The party has been hugely popular thanks to its ever-changing line-up of hot international talent, which has seen the likes of Major Lazer, Alesso, Diplo and Axwell Ingrosso rock Ushuaïa Ibiza’s festival-size outdoor stage over the course of the summer. And Hardwell, who has a long-standing relationship with the al fresco party arena, was honoured with not only opening but also closing the successful party series. As a former resident, we knew the Dutch chart topper would prepare an epic finale, taking the crowd on a musical rollercoaster that would end on a distinct high.

Up and coming turntable talent Dante Klein kicked off proceedings, a star on the rise who at the tender age of 21 can already boast a collaboration with Sam Feldt as well as remixes for Dimitri Vegas & Like Mike. He was followed by young break-through talent Mike Williams, who warmed up the crowd with his signature ‘bounce’ after spending the summer jet-setting across the European festival circuit. Up next, Norwegian producer and DJ Matoma made the most of the remaining afternoon sunshine, his tropical feel-good sound a perfect match for partying by Ushuaïa Ibiza’s iconic poolside.

With the sunlight fading, it was time to turn the party a notch and the man for the job was Benny Benassi, who took to the giant stage like a duck to water. Fresh off rocking Ushuaïa Ibiza’s sister venue Hï Ibiza, the global star DJ looked utterly at home behind the decks, firing on the crowd with an energetic and infectious set. The atmosphere was electric, with the trendy party goers giving it their all on the dance floor and enthusiastically throwing their hands up in the air. By the time Benassi was ready to hand over the reigns to Hardwell, the space in front of the stage was a pulsating sea full of happy faces and dancing bodies.

For the Limited Edition closing party, Hardwell treated revellers to a two-hour set, blacking out the huge stage to announce his imminent arrival. By now a veteran when it comes to putting on a good show, the super star DJ made a grand entrance that began with dramatic, eerie-bordering-on-scary black, white and red graphics soundtracked by haunting electronic soundcapes and a pulsating heartbeat until a huge explosion of lights, streamers and confetti revealed his appearance behind the decks.

Beaming from ear to ear, the producer was greeted by a roar from the crowd and launched straight into firing on his audience by raising his hands and encouraging them to clap along to the beat of his opening record, Know No Better by Major Lazer featuring Travi Scott, Camila Cabello and Quavo. Instantly connection with the crowd, he began the night with an energetic and infectious selection of his peers’ tracks such as Calvin Harris and Alesso’s Under Control, before launching into a more mellow tempo featuring chart toppers including Let Me Love You by DJ Snake featuring Justin Bieber and Voodoo Song by Willy William.

Of course, the Dutch super star dropped plenty of his own hugely successful hits, making the crowd go wild to numbers like Apollo, We Are Legends, Going Crazy and Mad World – Bomb A Drop. However, the master mixer kept us on our toes by throwing in the odd unexpected remix, surprising us with Michael Jackson’s Thriller and Europe’s The Final Countdown. No matter how much you love Hardwell’s producing skills, seeing the DJ play a set is really an unmissable experience for any self-respecting EDM lover, as few engage with their audience like he does. Visibly enjoying himself, he relentlessly fired on partygoers to dance, chant and sing along with him, keeping the atmosphere electric all night. Paired with the spectacular production, steam fountains, pyrotechnics and confetti explosions of Ushuaïa Ibiza, it was a spectacle that will be etched into the memories of those that attended the Limited Edition Closing for a long time.
