A game-changing night was the calling card of Saturday evening when Hï Ibiza and Black Coffee came together for a joint closing bash. Doubling up on the power, it was one of the most highly anticipated parties with a line-up close to explosive. With big names set to grace the decks starring the likes of Andrea Oliva, Nic Fanciulli, Nastia, Housekeeping and Themba, there was one artist that undoubtedly caused the biggest stir. Plastering primary-coloured billboards all over the island with his trademark branding, everywhere we went in the run-up had our minds fixated. Fashion label OFF-WHITE honcho and industry luminary Virgil Abloh was going to make it one for the books while Hï Ibiza gifted us all with a showstopping finale.

Having overheard conversations about the closing throughout the day in the gym, supermarket and local café it was one mighty build-up knowing almost all of the island was in on it. And, the energy was palpable from the offset. Arriving outside Hï Ibiza to a glamorous crowd orderly forming lengthy queues, it was only just past midnight yet the congregation was already monumental. Amongst some big-time industry heads, we caught fellow Hï Ibiza resident Cathy Guetta’s arriving garnering much attention. It was looking like the 5000-odd capacity club was to reach its maximum, and when we entered the futuristic interiors of the Theatre our socks almost popped off at the numbers inside!

Treated to backstage spots, it was frankly not much salvation as every inch of everywhere was filled with revellers lapping up every drop of music. Andrea Oliva and Nic Fanciulli were up delivering an almighty b2b in the cavernous Theatre, wasting no time in unleashing white-hot anthems to drum the floor into eruption. Yet we were simply far too spoilt for choice as each room at every hour had an incredible act on. Over in the Club, the Housekeeping crew was making serious waves as beautiful dancers in eye-catching costumes busted fiery shapes against the power-hungry sounds – catapulting us straight into the electro jungle Hï Ibiza was decorated as!

Snaking our way back to the Theatre in time for Virgil Abloh’s highly anticipated set, we truly didn’t foresee what magic the fashion honcho would have up his sleeve. Opening with a haunting piano track that bleeped out into the vast space, it built into a thunderous drop that sent the floor ablaze with an almighty roar from the crowd. With the room whooping and hollering along, his set was unrelenting, serving out some of the most innovative sounds while sticking firmly to techno; lingering drops aplenty and a throttle that had us tightly in the pulsating wormhole of electronica. Of course, a man with visionary taste in design was only going to translate this aesthetic to his music, and boy, was it addictive!

Meanwhile, Nastia was in a world of her own throwing a party of epic proportions in the Club. Rapid-hitting beats took us from a sexy shape-shifting vibe to dark pounding head bangers as she threatened to burst the speakers in the Club. Virgil joined her behind the decks soon after his set in the Theatre had ended, nodding along in much appreciation – as we were also.

Three hours had passed in the blink of an eye, and soon it was time for Black Coffee to reign supreme back in the Theatre. The atmosphere was unbelievably electric as the futuristic space transformed into a fantastical intergalactic vision of the universe. Stars shot around us as Black Coffee brought in a heroic drumming initiation. With images of robed travellers spiralling around planets hitting our eye sockets and a giant LED ring lit up around the booth, the night felt like a religious pilgrimage to futuristic Africa.

Working the crowd so effortlessly, indeed the experience was spiritual, emotional and simply breath-taking. The cinematic Afro House sound led an incredible sonic journey that held a packed out dancefloor captivated until the very end. Staying much longer than intended, the night was insatiable. A man with a musical dream, it’s of no wonder that Black Coffee has dominated the island. With a thought-provoking sound and summer-long roster of likeminded acts, his night is in a league of its own. An unforgettable closing, we’re keeping our eyes firmly peeled for 2019!
