As Ibiza 2016 came to a conclusion we said goodbye to some iconic Ibiza institutions, from Space Ibiza to Carl Cox’s Revolution party. Fans of the enigmatic spinner flooded every party of the season giving it a fitting farewell. Winter has been spent thinking about what would take its place and if Carl Cox would return to the island. That was quickly laid to rest at the start of the year with the announcement of two special events on July 11 and 18, Game Over Ibiza presents Pure Carl Cox at Privilege.

With the disappearance of the iconic Playa d’en Bossa venue, Privilege offers a fantastic space in which to enjoy one of Ibiza’s most popular DJs. Having packed his Tuesday night residency for over a decade and a half, he now turns to the world’s largest club, which promises to be a very special collaboration indeed. Ibiza without Carl Cox just doesn’t seem right so expect some pop up events throughout the season, where the talented spinner will once again be shouting ‘Oh Yes Oh Yes!’ from the booth, grinning from ear to ear as he delivers the sickest soundtrack. With the Privilege parties the only confirmed and announced so far, as usual with the Carl Cox team, it’s very much a case of “If you know you know!”. So Ibiza caught up with Dave Browning and Eoin Smyth, the guys behind the Game Over concept to get the lowdown on the forthcoming season…

Revolution Closing Carl Cox by la skimal

Carl Cox surprised and delighted more than a few clubbers pre-season announcing he would be returning to the island; what brought about the decision to launch Game Over and Pure Carl Cox?
After the closure of Carl Cox at Space Ibiza, the outstanding success of our Game Over open air event in September and 15 years of feeding the island with mammoth events every summer we were reminded of the profound effect Carl and our parties have had on the clubbing landscape of Ibiza.

Was there a real temptation to bring the Ibiza adventure to an end with the closure of Space or was there always a plan to still have some interaction?
There was never a thought in our mind about stopping. It was more a question of where to next and thankfully we haven’t had to look very far. Carl’s fans are some of the most dedicated clubbers in the world. He knows this himself and as mentioned time and time again in interviews, He’s here for them. We have so much more to give to the island and though it may seem it was cut short with the closure of Space. We can assure you there is plenty more to come.

What makes Privilege the perfect choice as venue to collaborate with?
Privilege has been a sleeping giant for the past few years just waiting for the right events to catapult it back to where it belongs as one of the best clubs not just the biggest. Space has left a hole in the lives of the clubbing community worldwide and we are determined to deliver something worthy of our reputation as one of the best events on the Island and there is no better place to do this that the cavernous main room of Privilege. If you like your clubbing to raw and sweaty whether you are in the middle of the dancefloor or on the balcony this event is for you.

What should we expect from Pure Carl Cox?
This is very much a stripped back heavy duty, no holds barred rave-athon. You can expect PURE unadulterated, no-frills house and techno from start to finish. The line-up is powerful. The new Funktion 1 system is banging and we’re working our asses off to blow everyone’s heads off. Go HARD or GO HOME as Carl aptly put it.

With only a couple of dates announced is there a chance there will be more revealed?
