Escucha, the roving club night by Ibiza mainstay Jo Mills, has enjoyed an exciting season thus far, hopping from beach club to hidden hotspot. On Saturday night, the party took over La Belle Ibiza with a sophisticated dinner vibe. Knowing it would be a fab night, we made sure we were there to dance the night away in the bohemian garden venue.

La Belle Ibiza is the perfect venue for Escucha – the right mix between chilled and glamorous, bohemian, chic and vibrant. As we stepped into the pretty garden courtyard at the back of the venue on Saturday night, we were struck – as we are every time – with just how picturesque it is. Tropical garlands hang overhead, giving the illusion of a ceiling, and the blazing Mediterranean sun was just setting through the gaps in the garlands, giving way to a balmy July night. In the booth, Conor Wheeler was making his Escucha debut, and the ambience was warm, friendly and relaxed; his chilled set with a funky twist was the perfect backdrop to the tropical surroundings.

Meanwhile, there was plenty to see and do, with glamorous hosts-cum-dancers milling around in sleek black unitards with eclectic additions like bunny ears and masquerade masks, and plenty of extra props and accessories for guests to dress up in too. The kids at the venue were running around trying on all the wigs, hats and dresses from the rail just inside the venue, and it added to the fun-filled atmosphere and the infectious mood at La Belle Ibiza. This mood was helped along by the lovely, enthusiastic staff – one of which, when I thanked him for bringing my drink, exclaimed ‘you are so welcome! I love this table, I have the best job!’ It was hard not to smile contemplating the attitude and friendliness of the staff, especially when you were already in such an amicable and chatty environment.

Island favourite – but newcomer to Escucha – Chino Paino also took his turn in the booth as day turned to night and the colourful garden began to fill with partygoers and late diners. We decided to order a quick bite to eat and I can highly recommend the vegetable gyoza (which I decided to have as a main) as something to sate you whilst having a few drinks – they were tender, salty and paired perfectly with the crisp white wine I was drinking. As we had dinner, the dancers took position and regaled the guests with a couple of dance numbers – first up an impressive number to a remix of Madonna’s vogue, with a complicated vogueing routine of course – and later dancing to Michael Jackson’s Bad complete with blazers and trilbies.

Escusha’s curator and headliner Jo Mills took to the booth at about 11pm, by which point most people had eaten and were happily sitting and chatting in their groups. The mellow remixes of R&B classics and chilled but upbeat soundtrack was the perfect backdrop to the sophisticated, friendly evening – it was upbeat and feel-good, without being so loud that you couldn’t sit and chat. At midnight, the party moved indoors to La Belle Ibiza’s designated club space, and Ibiza favourite (though another newcomer for the party) Graham Sahara took over the booth, before Ibiza legend Jon Sa Trinxa entertained the partygoers with his turn. The dinner mood had shifted now, the children had largely left and Escucha became more of a party, with people dancing in the intimately lit club.

Whether you popped in for dinner, waited for the party to start or stayed through the whole evening and night, La Belle Ibiza’s night was yet another success for Escucha, and we left feeling mellow, upbeat and cheerful. Thanks for another brilliant night, Escucha – and we’ll see you again soon!
