Disclosure Rocks Dalt Vila

Posted on September 4, 2013

Dalt Vila can rightfully claim to be one of the finest party locations on the planet never mind the island, the world heritage site offers a dramatic backdrop not to mention a fitness testing walk but the view that meets you when you get there is more than worth it. It feels like it was only a few weeks ago we made the climb for the IMS Grand Finale at the end of May, but the slight chill in the air tells us that August has gone and we have made it in one piece to the start of September. IMS have teamed up with Annie Mac Presents to assemble a talented line up that includes the spinner herself, Julio Bashmore, Jessie Ware PA and a live performance from Disclosure. It’s a line up that has captured the imagination as we wander through Ibiza town’s narrow streets, every ticket seller has a sold out sign next to the event. The cobbled streets that wind through the old town are packed as all roads lead to the top of the Dalt Vila.

What meets us is breathtaking, or was that the climb, either way the arena is packed, the old town and marina stretches out way below us and Annie Mac is mid-set, dropping bass heavy nuggets on a vocal and appreciative crowd that is clearly in the mood for a party. This is a great addition to the Ibiza calendar, the IMS Grand Finale is a little early in the season for these clubbers to enjoy and Dalt Vila is definitely a location that should be experienced. The action all kicked off at 6pm as some of the finest Ibiza residents entertained the huge crowd and warmed proceedings up perfectly, Clara Da Costa, Andy Baxter, Alex Wolfenden and Jason Bye have a vast amount of combined experience between them and are acutely aware of what it takes to prepare a crowd of this magnitude. Previous commitments meant we missed the local talent and also Julio Bashmore and Jesse Ware but the atmosphere that meets us when we catch our first glimpse of the crowd suggests that everyone played their part to perfection. Back stage, the island has turned out in force and there are some celebs cutting about, Radio 1’s Greg James and comedian Jack Whitehall don’t hang about too long, they prefer to get in amongst the masses for the performance.

Annie Mac is on the mic thanking everyone for coming out, which is met with a huge roar as she controls the masses with ease. Dalt Vila offers a real festival atmosphere with a sea if smiling faces beaming back at her as she interacts with them, the first mention of Disclosure prompts another massive reaction, while the line up is packed with talent, it’s fair to say that this is a crowd that is here to see Disclosure. The Friend Within re-rub of Wildchild Renegade Master sends the Dalt Vila crazy as Annie Mac continues to prepare them for the arrival of the biggest electronic act on the planet right now. As Annie Mac finishes her set, Andy Baxter takes control of the tunes once more, keeping the party going while the stage is made ready for the arrival of Guy and Howard Lawrence. It’s an impressive set up, with a huge screen at the back of the stage framing two stations containing all sorts of technical equipment, percussion, keyboards and a guitar. The music finally stops, the stage goes dark and the screens spring to life as Disclosure take to the stage and the crowd gives them the welcome that befits a duo that has captured the ears and hearts of a musical generation. This must have been what it was like at the beginning of the musical journey for the likes of Groove Armada, Orbital, Chemical Brothers or Underworld.

The single synth growl sees the anticipation levels rise even further before Disclosure say a quick hello and fly into F For You. The crowd erupts; every hand is in the air as they proceed to work their way through their stunning ‘Settle’ album. The album is choc full of amazing songs, featuring some of the finest vocalists around, with the likes of Sasha Keable, London Grammar, Sam Smith, Aluna George and Eliza Doolittle just some of the names on there. Of course, all of them couldn’t join them on stage tonight but Jessie Ware does come back on stage to perform ‘Confess To Me’, which is one of the high points for the masses that have made the climb to catch them. Latch also receives an extra special roar as the crowd joins in and sings along as does When A Fire Starts To Burn and White Noise but, to be honest, this is a crowd that knows it tunes as they recognize and sing along with every tune. The show comes to a close just after midnight with every hand in the air paying its respects for a job well done. Disclosure has enjoyed a fantastic season in Ibiza 2013 and by the looks of tonight; this is only the start of their musical journey.
