As nights on the White Isle start to get colder and the numbers of shows at the clubs begin nearing their penultimate few, one dancefloor keeping its spirits very much up and alive is Déjà Vu at HEART Ibiza. Serving up a Saturday night fever with quality tracks from the heydays of Studio 54 and 70’s New York house, Déjà Vu has been enjoying a colourful summer making full use of the venue’s state-of-the-art-sound system – creating a world that truly feels like a blip into another time. With the Italian music prodigy Tuccillo at the helm of every night, last Saturday he was accompanied by none other than DJ Pippi and Jellybean Benitez.

Both highly respected artists in the game, DJ Pippi is best known for his time on the island, having gone strong for 30 years. Not only has he spun records with almost all of the leading names in electronic music, but he has played at all the legendary venues of the island. His timeless dedication to his craft was evident as, upon our entry into the ever-stylish HEART Ibiza, the bustling dancefloor immediately beckoned us with an unmistakeably Balearic sound.

With a more mature crowd out for the night, no doubt many followers of the iconic acts, the vibe was unquestionably electric as a joyous, jubilant, mood overtook the air – carefree dancing underneath the haze of purple and pink lights. HEART Ibiza looked a picture, as magnificent string chandeliers surrounded the DJ booth and the kaleidoscopic visuals the club is so famous for bathed the towering walls of the central dancefloor.

Dancers in sequin catsuits and plush afros shape-shifted to the amorous sounds of bubbly disco while a surprise appearance from a robot breakdancer stole everyone’s attention! Jellybean Benitez was the man to top it all, however, as one of the original residents at the legendary Studio 54 itself he brought a truly mesmerising set morphing all the classic anthems of the golden era with a modern, eccentric twist.

Sending everyone’s hands up in praise, there was no denying the prowess of the living icon as his high-energy performance turned into a nostalgic singalong. To experience a real taste of funk, Benitez will be at the closing, in the meantime Ted Patterson and the avant-garde Willie Graff are sure to tickle – flares and platforms at the ready!
