Beyond the super clubs and pool parties in Ibiza you will find a beautiful hidden oasis not far from San Antonio. Inside this oasis, known as Benimussa Park, is a multitude of hidden stages, swimming pools, illuminated trees and zoo animals. The old zoo is home to some of the craziest festival parties in Ibiza and August 13 saw the Corona Sunsets Music Festival deliver a party that will never be forgotten. Living in the white isle I have been to pretty much every party on the island, so when a unique event like this comes around I jumped at the chance to experience something different. As expected the festival was out of this world.

As I made my way into the mysterious old zoo, I was welcomed by a variety of clothing and hippie stalls with some beautiful items for sale. I however was dying for an icy cold beer or should I say cerveza? When I made it to the bar, I couldn’t resist one of the Corona cocktails on offer. Let me tell you I wasn’t disappointed with my choice, it was an explosion of flavours in my mouth and my friends couldn’t get enough of my drink, so it was back to the bar for them to get their own. For only 12 euros you really couldn’t go wrong. You easily could get lost inside the park. Around every corner is something new and exciting to experience. Look up and you might spot a zebra or a monkey, for me I was particularly captivated with the large dream catchers and nets scattered around. I was also blown away by the Mandala stage. Behind the DJ was a giant mandala like star all lit up in bright colours, it actually almost looked like a sunflower and being a lover of sunflowers I was in my element.

There were two stages on offer with an incredible line up on each. I really couldn’t tell you which DJ I liked best because they all put on such an incredible performance. Some of highlights for me though was seeing legend and BBC Radio 1 host Pete Tong play as the sun was setting and the sky turned from blue, to pink and finally to black. There is something so magical about watching the sun go down to music, almost as if the sun is setting perfectly in time to the beat. Claptone with his dazzling gold bird-like mask almost had me in tears when he played his remix of Sirens of Lesbos, “Long Days, Long Nights”. It is such a beautiful track and for me it is the song of the summer and now I just love it even more. The ultimate highlight for me however was Duke Dumont’s set. Being number 1 in the charts more than once, it’s safe to say everyone knew the lyrics to his tracks. When he dropped “Need U 100%” everyone was singing along. I looked around me for a moment to see so many smiling, happy people; it really was so special.

Other artists that played on the Mandala stage included garage legend DJ Ez, the stunning duo Eli & Fur, Ibiza born and raised Mambo Brothers and Uppfade. Over on the Crown stage was DJ Harvey, Rob Da Bank, Nightmares on Wax, Thelab and The Wolf. I feel so happy to have been able to experience the Corona Sunsets Music Festival, I wish that it was on every week, but then that wouldn’t make it as special as it was. I look forward to experiencing the festival again in Ibiza next year or perhaps somewhere else in the world before then. Until then I will have to just enjoy an icy cold Corona to reminisce on such an incredible day and night.
