One of the earliest memories of the Ibiza closing session has always been the curtain closer at Amnesia. Starting with the walk to the venue, always colourful, with groups of friends hanging out at cars, drinking beers as the latest techno floor filler blasts from the speakers, soundtracking multiple private pre-arties. The impromptu market outside the venue offering a carnival vibe before the doors even open! The final piece of the puzzle is the knowledge that the party would be firing well into the following day, offering the ultimate clubbing challenge!

This summer has seen the famous club operating under the banner, “making history since 1974”. Over four decades of delivering the finest Ibiza parties, welcoming millions of clubbers from all over the world during that time, not to mention the most exciting names on the global club scene, many of who made their first Ibiza appearance in either the club or the terrace. Saturday October 14 saw the final party of the 2017 season, after a summer that witnessed some amazing weekly gatherings from residents such as Cocoon, Together, Hyte, Cream, Music On and Elrow. In a fitting finale, Amnesia invited an array of talented artists that have all previously made a huge impact on the clubbing capital, including Lee Burridge, Blond:ish, Damian Lazarus, Eats Everything, Mar-T, Ilario Alicante and Better Lost Than Stupid, a collaboration between Davide Squillace, Matthias Tanzmann and Martin Buttrich.

While there was a temptation to remain outside for a bit longer and soak up the excitement level as it soared towards the crowd’s eventual entrance to the club, not to mention nibbling on some organic Acai from Amazonia, to make sure we were best prepared for what lay ahead, we decided to get in early(ish) and pick out our spot. Both rooms were already in full swing, the Amnesia closing party has a habit of capturing the imagination of the club world and, while there are those that prefer to drop in much later, some who even set an alarm and attend the morning session only, there are plenty who accept the challenge of the marathon closing session and take to the floor for the duration!

Not matter which room you found yourself in and at what time, there was an electric atmosphere and a member of the international elite in charge of proceedings. Highlights for us included Eats Everything and Mar-T going back to back. Both DJs have a special affinity with the venue and the clubbers that fill it and this was obvious from first to last beat of their enthralling encounter. When a back to back set works, it can be one of the most exciting things to behold – two artists at the top if their game, reacting to both the floor and what their fellow spinner has played, leading the crowd on a magical mystery tour through some of the biggest beats and thunderous breakdowns. The duo mesmerised throughout their set and we never moved from the terrace after that. Ilario Alicante displayed all of the talent that made him one of the most popular of the Cocoon DJs this summer and the closing salvo, delivered by Davide Squillace, Matthias Tanzmann and Martin Buttrich was pure clubbing theatre. The morning beaming into the terrace through the glass ceiling offered a unique party vibe, a satisfaction that we had made it to the next day as Amnesia finally says goodbye to Ibiza 2017.
