Saturday and Sunday are our favourite days of the week, fact. But if you thought that you couldn’t possibly love your weekends any more than you do already, think again. Because once you add sun, good music, delicious food and a crisp glass of champagne or two into the equation, your two days of work-free fun are heightened by the tenfold. And that’s exactly what the stylish Cotton Beach Club, one of Ibiza’s most glamorous seaside destinations, offers up during their weekly Cotton & Collet Champagne Lunch on Saturdays and Sundays.

We never need asking twice to visit the airy and bright venue, which overlooks Cala Tarida high from the cliff tops and offers breath-taking views across the vast expanse of dark blue and turquoise waters. There really isn’t a bad time to drop in and lounge on the comfortable daybeds down on the beach, head up to the restaurant for a leisurely lunch or toast the sunset with a carefully crafted cocktail, but at the weekends the unrivalled atmosphere is even more electric than usual. From 13.00 onwards until the late afternoon at 18.00, guests are invited to relax, enjoy a fine selection of grapes from the venue’s partners Collet and feast on fresh seafood, sushi and sashimi, modern Mediterranean fare and classic favourites, all the while enjoying expertly mixed beats, fashion presentations and live music.

Greeted warmly by the front of house team and led to our table with spectacular sea views by our waiter Giorgio, we began our lunch with a selection of delicious and fruity cocktails. The Passionfruit Martini was a perfect blend of sweet and tangy tropical flavours, while the Watermelon Martini tasted like summer in glass. Meanwhile, the classic – and potent – Mai Tai was served in a trendy copper tumbler, scoring ultimate Instagram points.

Contemplating the July heat, we kept our starters light and shared a raw, citrus-marinated tuna tartare of sushi grade fish served on a creamy bed of avocado and topped with chunks of fresh mango and, an interesting and unique addition, a scoop of sharp wasabi ice cream. A lush, creamy ball of burrata cheese oozed cream from its centre once cut, the rich texture balanced with juicy, ripe tomatoes and its flavours enhanced by a delicious sundried tomato pesto and a scattering of dried black olive crumbles.

A Mediterranean classic, don’t leave without trying the delicate slow-cooked octopus served in a Spanish ‘ajo blanco’ cold soup made from pistachio nuts and coconut milk, juxtaposed with the fresh crunch of apples and the distinctive flavour of coriander. Table favourite, in unison, was the thinly sliced beef tataki, tender and full of flavour as well as refreshing and zesty thanks to a topping of marinated sun-dried tomato chunks soaked in a citrusy Ponzu sauce.

Switching over to some ice-cold bubbles, we had the honour of Cotton’s expert sommelier Jose Luis decapitating our champagne bottle with a samurai sword, sending the foam spraying into the endless blue of the sky and the sea below. As we toasted the afternoon ahead, it was impossible not to feel giddy while we soaked up the ambience and basked in the sunshine. Resident DJ Dalibor was spinning the perfect funky soundtrack for the occasion, supported by live saxophone performances for the ultimate Balearic feel good vibes.

Models floated past the tables in stunning creations from Cotton Beach Ibiza’s Lifestyle Boutique, which this year is being curated in collaboration with Kurru Kurru designer Marinela Cifteli, an expert when it comes to sexy but sophisticated fashion. From flirty sheer black beach dresses to boldly printed floaty frocks perfect for a summer night, we had to hold on tight to our credit cards!

Our main courses arrived, and we almost couldn’t believe our eyes when we saw the sheer size of the whole fresh sea bass we were about to share. Baked in a heavy shell of crunchy sea salt and infused with Ibicencan herbs, Giorgio expertly broke into the crystallised armour and filleted to the fish for us to perfection. Once on the plate, the soft, moist texture and subtle sea flavour of the fish was a simple pleasure that didn’t need any enhanced but the crunchy steamed vegetables it was served with.

We also tried a tender and juicy Segovia suckling pig with an addictive crispy skin that had been slow-cooked for 24 hours and was accompanied by silky potato puree, lime caviar with Japanese Shichimi chilli, fresh mint, and sweet orange compote to set of the aromas of the meat. Last, but by no means least, the roasted lamb shoulder melted in our mouths, its earthy flavour enhanced by honeyed pumpkin and sweet potato mash it came served with.

While we had been tucking into our food, the daytime party had slowly but steadily kicked into the gear, fuelled by the excellent infectious music and delicious drinks. The stylish guests were climbing up on the stage to dance right in front of the DJ booth and the saxophone player, who had been joined by a drummer firing off irresistible beats.

Never knowingly leaving a table without a sweet treat, we refused to join the fun until we had tried Cotton Beach Club’s dessert offering, swooning over a delicate Crème Brule with a crunchy lid of (deliberately) burnt caramel, which had been given an exotic twist by using coconut milk and an infusion of lime and vanilla. The restaurant’s take on the classic tiramisu was a modern, deconstructed approach of tart cream cheese mousse served with coffee ice cream, crunchy chocolate cookie infused with Amaretto and coffee liqueur. The Chocolate Texture variation rounded off our final course perfectly, a creamy chocolate creation similar in texture to a rich ganache, juxtaposed with crunchy chocolate crumble and Pop Rocks.

After hours of premium drinks, world-class food and fabulous entertainment, we couldn’t resist the glittering waters of Cala Tarida any longer and headed down the stairs to Cotton’s beach club on the soft sands of the bay. Sprawling out on the chic white and grey sunbeds and soft towels, ice cold beer in hand, we agreed that truly, weekend’s don’t get any better than this!
