Anyone who has ever been to iconic White Isle beach institution Blue Marlin Ibiza will agree that there ain’t no celebration like a Blue Marlin Ibiza celebration! So it came as no surprise whatsoever that, for its seasonal closing party, the chic venue was jam-packed with loyal guests who wanted to bid summer 2016 farewell from their favourite seaside destination.

It’s been another cracking year for Blue Marlin Ibiza, which, once again, lured in the international jet set and those who know their music with their outstanding culinary offering and impeccably curated line-ups day after day. For this year’s closing celebration Skream, Richy Ahmed and special guest Cajmere had the honour of providing the soundtrack for one of the biggest nights of the year.

When Essential Ibiza arrived at 7pm, the beach club was already buzzing with anticipation for the night ahead. As always, the atmosphere was uplifting and exciting as we watched more and more trendy folk arrive by yacht, while others were already toasting the occasion with crisp glasses of champagne and delicious cocktails. With dinner service in full swing, juicy steaks and fresh sushi platters made our eyes pop out of our heads as guests enjoyed a special meal on the white sands before hitting the dance floor.Blue Marlin CLosing by la skimalBlue Marlin CLosing by la skimal

Cajmere opened the night with a set that was as smooth as his name would suggest, looking cool-as-anything surrounded by his entourage and a bevvy of beauties in the elevated DJ booth. The floor was already busy with music lovers who savoured ever single one of the driving house beats that were further boosted with drum sounds. Mashing up classic tracks like Groove Armada’s Superstylin’ with Daft Punk’s Put Your Hands Up In The Air.

With the venue getting busier and busier, the evening was in full swing when Skream took over the decks. Beautiful dancers in fantastical feathered costumes strutted their stuff elevated above the thousands-strong crowd, which was spilling out onto the beach – and yet more fans of Blue Marlin Ibiza kept arriving, forming a queue that reached all the way into the car park. Skream kept the energy sky-high with an infectious set of pumping basslines mixed with funky vocal elements and teasing builds. Upon every drop, ice cannons were unleashed onto the busy dance floor, surprising and refreshing the crowd at the same time. Visibly enjoying his time in the booth, he ended his set on a ‘90s tip, finishing with all-time classic Music Is The Answer to a roar of approval.

After nightfall, the beach club looked spectacular with its neon lighting, white interiors and sparklers mounted to bottles of champagne illuminating the darkness. Following a costume change, the dancers were now adorned with fierce dragon horn headpieces, showing off their incredible bodies and moves in scant embellished onepieces – making for a majestic sight lit up from behind.

Closing the celebration was Richy Ahmed, who delivered a darker vibe that was as mesmerising as it was contagious. Virtually no one could resist growing along to his chunky, deep tech-house soundscapes, creating an amazing atmosphere that highlighted exactly what makes Blue Marlin Ibiza so special. With people eager to get in and queuing up even half an hour before celebrations came to an end, we think it’s more than fair to say the venue went out with a bang, already leaving their loyal fan base leaving wanting more next year.
