There’s something secretive and exciting about an event that starts with the words ‘Black Door’. I was told about this Multi-use venue that you could go to once a week, and watch arty, quirky films with your friends and drink wine at the bar beforehand. This, to me, seemed like heaven and I needed to go check it out for myself. Winter in Ibiza is always offering little gems of experiences, and this was sure to be one of them.

Ambling along one of the streets in Ibiza Town, we stumbled across a door that had the sign ‘BLACK DOOR IBIZA’ written across it. Welcomed in by friendly and familiar faces, we lounged around on big sofas, drinking red wine and chatting to the locals. That’s what Ibiza is about, connecting with the residents during the off-season and what better way to do it than wine in hand, and an upcoming film on the horizon. We were ushered into a cozy room with big, red couches, and, armed with our popcorn, we settled in. It certainly feels like you and your friends are at home, feet up, with a big screen and tasty snacks. Sociable and relaxing.

The movie of the night was ‘Pride’, a British film that was nominated for three BAFTA awards. (Outstanding British Film, Imelda Staunton for Best Supporting Actress, and Outstanding Debut by a British Writer, Director or Producer). The film is set in the summer of 1984 – Margaret Thatcher is in power and the National Union of Mineworkers (NUM) is on strike. And so begins the extraordinary story of two seemingly alien communities who form a surprising and ultimately triumphant alliance. I can’t say there was a dry eye in the room, and the whole experience of watching such a moving film, with snacks and wine, surrounded by wonderful people, certainly made for a recipe for success. We will definitely be back, and you should too! When you’re on holiday in Ibiza, why not mix it up with a night of film and wine, before heading out onto the town – after all, this is the island where ‘anything goes’ and one thing is for sure – the creativity swirling around the island shines brightly on a night like this.

Chapter, one of the most popular artists on the island and a favourite of ours, has showcased his artwork here as well as the joint film night and exhibition from Essentialibiza new snapper Gato Suarez and Libro Azul. Black Door is used as a gallery, bar, event and promotional space (fashion labels, team outings, photo shoots, exhibitions), private hire for birthdays and celebrations and is also used for regular members’ film nights (which include the bar for pre-drinks). It has hosted Kids’ Film Club too, which is ideal for kiddie’s birthdays or just a fun day out.
