When the Ibiza winter flight schedule dried up, not that long ago, suddenly the island felt a little cut off from the rest of the world, those that lived in Ibiza but had business interests elsewhere had to really think about their commitment to remain on the island throughout the winter. Then British Airways had a look at the situation, saw the potential and, after speaking with some key people on the island, decided to service the island, starting off with two flights a week. Such was the success of these flights that the number was increased by 150% to five flights a week in 2013/ 2014, with daily flights to the island throughout the Christmas and New Year period. Proof, as if any were needed, of the benefit if having a winter service, not only allowing people to do business, but also seeing an increase in the number of tourists choosing Ibiza out of season and Ibiza residents taking advantage and heading for the odd long weekend in London. The increase in traffic from the island to London at the start of the year to connect to long haul flights to Asia and Australia was also another positive to come out of the BA winter schedule from London City to Ibiza.

We are massive fans of winter in Ibiza, the climate is much better than most other countries in Europe, there are year round deals to be done, from some hotels that stay open to long term flat lets, which have been steadily increasing year on year, not to mention that the world famous parties, which have put the island on the map in the last three decades, continue in a slightly more intimate format, although the world famous atmosphere and quality of DJs performing is consistent throughout the year. British Airways is enjoying its love affair with Ibiza so much that this summer sees London City increasing its Ibiza flights from 18 to 20 every week, there are also increases from Heathrow and Gatwick and there is a brand new, three flights per week, service running from Edinburgh, which has already proved hugely popular. For the discerning traveller that wants to enjoy a civilized flight to the island and not a roller coaster party in the air that some of the budget airlines provide, this is a Godsend and one that will definitely be popular. To celebrate this increase, British Airways has teamed up with Essential and some of the bigger brands on the island to offer a series of exclusive holiday competitions this season, the first of which is live now, with a chance of winning a long weekend in Ibiza in conjunction with Atzaro Hotel, Healing Ibiza, Walking Ibiza, Babylon Beach, Bambuddha, Nassau Beach, Velo Club Ibiza, Class Rent A Car, OpenLab, David Lynch Foundation and Ali Campbell. As we head towards the official start of Spring on the island, or as we call it, Atzaro Primavera, one of the biggest island gatherings of the year, why not book a last minute flight and get a taste of the island before the madness begins. If that’s too soon, then it’s worth pointing out that the island will be open for business at the end of May, when the International Music Summit heads to Hard Rock Hotel Ibiza in Playa d’en Bossa for the conference and to Dalt Vila for a spectacular two night grand finale, it’s never too soon to book a British Airways flight to Ibiza to get involved. The ability to get to Ibiza from anywhere in the UK with British Airways is even easier with the announcement of the new flight from Edinburgh and the increased flights from all London airports, whether you are thinking of a long weekend for the opening or closing parties, have your annual pilgrimage to the island to worship on one of its famous dancefloors or if you are about to book your first ever Ibiza adventure, you could do worse than get it off to a flyer on board a British Airways plane.
