An Awesome Amante Au Revoir

As the closing parties continue apace you start to question your sanity. Have they really been going on for this long? Will they ever end? Is this all a dream? Perhaps you’ve lost your mind by this point in the season, or maybe you haven’t had enough sleep in a really long time, but nothing seems strange anymore. An iguana could walk past wearing a tiger onesie and holding a balloon and the majority of people still left on the island probably wouldn’t even notice. And that’s why when a toy train turns up to drive you up a mountain and drop you off at a closing party, no one so much as bats an eyelid. In fact the only response it draws are men whooping with delight and women waving like the Queen as they pass people on the street. Welcome to Ibiza in October, and welcome to the kind of excitable, happy-go-lucky crowd that attended the Amante closing party last night.

Amante really is one helluva venue. It doesn’t matter how many times you’ve visited the place, it’s still as spectacular as the first time you saw it. The location helps – it’s set stop stunning cliffs in Cala Llonga, but it’s the beautiful beach, the incredible view and its tiered platforms that really make it what it is – especially on closing party night, when each and every one of said tiers is packed to the brim with raring to go revellers.

And that’s no surprise when you consider the fact that the Amante closing is one of October’s most anticipated events. Islanders descend en masse to party in this most beautiful of locations, and to dance the night away with some of the island’s top talent. This year the bill consisted of names including Chino Paino, Stefano Gemnis, DJ Antz, Iban Mendoza, David Morales and Eats Everything, so before you’re even inside the ground is shaking beneath you with the force of the beats. Once inside you’re treated to a feast for the eyes and ears – a solid house tunes with big, bouncy bass are raining down on the crowd, and lasers dance on the cliff edges, merrily mesmerising everyone below.

Once the sun has sunk below the horizon the music ramps up a notch, with David Morales and Eats Everything at the helm. We take up prime position behind the DJ booth with a sweeping view across the teeming dance floor and soak up the atmosphere while simultaneously stomping like our lives depend on it. Eats delivers belter after belter with nothing getting away – samba beats are thrown together with nineties classics and everyone’s taken on an eclectic, groovy journey that seemingly knows no end. The closing parties are the final hurrah for the season – one last chance to swing your hips and shake your stuff before putting it all to bed for winter. But at Amante, the feel-good vibes are doled out so readily that you’re left hoping it’ll never end. We may need a rest after a hectic summer but let’s be honest, winter needs to come and go as quickly as possible. Because who needs sleep when there are parties like this to go to?
