The Perfect Day At The Beach

Playa Niu Blau beach on the outskirts of Santa Eulalia might not be the easiest stretch of sand to get to on the island but it is most definitely one of the best. The intimate cove offers a tranquil setting for your day at the beach, with clear blue water, golden sand and the restaurant/ lounge gem that is Pura Vida. This beach and restaurant is one of the essentialibiza team’s favourites, it offers the perfect spot to get away from the carnage that can be the Ibiza summer season and relax and breathe out. Pura Vida offers fine dining on the beach, whether you prefer to sit inside the delightful restaurant or have you food delivered to your luxurious lounger in front of it. It has become one of the most popular spots for getting married, offering amazing facilities, professional and friendly staff and a stunning view. Size wise, it makes for the perfect private function venue and is also known for throwing its fair share of cool parties throughout the summer. During the day, however, it is the perfect place to get away and enjoy some delicious food and drink.

Wednesday is the ‘Welcome To The Beach’ event, where guest DJs join Pura Vida resident René Lezare in delivering a cool sound track to your afternoon. This afternoon René is on deck duty all on his own, and as we enjoy a glass of rosé with the sun on our faces, he is providing the perfect chilled out beats. The Pura Vida menu is varied and offers options no matter what your palate prefers, for starters we opt for the quinoa with grilled green asparagus and poached egg and the beef carpaccio with mini beetroot and pecorino with truffle oil. I know what you’re thinking, this can’t be an Essential food review, they have opted for the healthy dishes but you’d be surprised what a beach setting can do for your choice of food!

The restaurant is busy, there are a couple of large groups celebrating a birthday and plenty of tables taken up with people popping in off the beach, the atmosphere is very relaxed and the girls looking after us are never too intrusive, letting us get on with our afternoon but never far away when we need to ask for anything. It sums this amazing restaurant up to a tee, completely professional but with the right friendly and laid back attitude that doesn’t normally accompany fine dining. There are no airs and graces on this beach just great music, great food and a great vibe.

René has taken the tempo up slightly and into a downbeat house vibe as some people drop by and sit at the outside lounge area enjoying some brightly coloured cocktails, there is even a table beyond us half way through an intense game of backgammon and, even though it is still May and the temperatures have not been soaring recently, there are a few brave souls swimming in the sea. It’s the picture perfect beach scene. Our main courses arrive – Dorada a la mum with capern served with mini potatoes from the oven with sautéed cherry tomatoes, Caesar salad with grilled tiger prawns, parmesan and bacon and juicy rack of lamb with slightly warm lentils salad and mustard-apricot chutney– and although I am completely satisfied with my choice of lamb, I can’t help but have a little fish envy at the Dorada, it looks amazing. The chatter stops as we tuck into the food, with plenty going on around us and on the beach to keep us occupied and people watching. If rest and relaxation is what you look for when going to the beach then do yourself a favour and check out Playa Niu Blau but make sure you get your table booked for Pura Vida before you leave, it’s always busy.

There are plenty of options when thinking of which day to head to Pura Vida, Ibiza legend Paco Fernandez plays every Monday, if you are a fan of seafood then Friday is the day for you and if you have kids then there is entertainment for them on the same day. We can’t recommend Wednesday highly enough, René delivered an amazing set to accompany our food, during the height of the summer, I can’t think of anything better than a long day in the sun listening to the tunes. No matter which day you choose to visit the beach and Pura Vida, you will not be disappointed. Check out puravida-ibiza.com for the full run down of what’s going on on the beach. We were tempted to go for dessert but decided we would leave that for the next time, said our thanks and goodbyes and headed back to reality.
