A Taste Of Italy In Sir Rocco

Sir Rocco, the authentic Italian beach club by Ushuaïa, is open six days a week throughout the winter, closing only on Wednesday. Located on the beachfront in Playa d’en Bossa, it boasts a spectacular view across the sand and out to sea. With the beach more or less deserted nowadays, save from a few residents soaking up the winter sunshine, it offers a completely different experience to that of the summer. With stylish glass panels that can be removed should the need arise, it’s also a cosy place for eating out, no matter what the winter weather has to offer.

One of the advantages of living on an island is that the beach is always a short drive away at the very most. For those that imagine the height of July whenever Playa d’en Bossa is mentioned, with tourists taking over the town, winter in the resort could not be more different. The pace is considerably slower, there are very few people around and it makes for a tranquil spot to while away a few hours. Just sitting at your table looking out across the deserted beach and the sea that stretches, seemingly forever, is worth the trip, but, when it comes to mouth-watering menus, Sir Rocco is up there with the best of them. The menu is packed with Italian favourites, all with that authentic taste of the old country. Make sure you don’t leave without tasting the homemade limoncello, made from a traditional recipe and using only four ingredients – lemon peel, water, sugar and alcohol.

Our advice when planning a trip to the beach for an afternoon in Sir Rocco, firstly, make sure you book in advance, this is a popular destination all year round. Secondly, make sure you have only the lightest of breakfasts, you want to sample as much of this fantastic menu as possible. The homemade bread and fresh burrata is a great place to start, as you settle into your table. Sir Rocco is known for its fresh seafood, its pasta is freshly made, hand crafted in copper moulds from the village of Gragnano and, for lovers of pizza, you haven’t lived until you have let a slice melt in your mouth, it’s as close you will get to Italy without leaving the island! On the days when the sun has its hat on, enjoy lunch on the terrace, and maybe have your coffee sitting with your toes in the warm sand. It makes for the perfect spot for a long, lazy lunch and catch-up with friends.
