Cream is quick to spot talent, often giving many newcomers their first big break, newcomers that will go on to become stalwarts of the scene, superstars who remember where it all started for them and who are always keen to get behind the booth in Amnesia on a Thursday night and play to one of the most partisan crowds on the island. Make no mistake, when it comes to atmosphere, Thursday nights in Amnesia can compete with anything on the island.
The list of names that graces Cream throughout the summer is like a who’s who of dance music, whether you like your dance music on a hard trance tip, a melodic trance tip, a chunky house tip or with a touch of electro, it’s a safe bet that at least one of your heroes will make an appearance on a Thursday night in Amnesia. The likes of Paul van Dyke, who continues his love affair with Cream Ibiza, Above & Beyond, another regular, Eddie Halliwell and Gareth Emery have been playing for the super brand forever and big commercial names such as Deadmau5 and Calvin Harris, who could sell out venues on their own right, are all quick to accept the invitation when it comes.
There is very little on the island to rival the Amnesia main room on a Thursday when it is packed with enthusiastic music lovers, who know their DJs, know their tunes and who are not afraid to enjoy themselves. The noise from the floor threatens to take the roof off regularly and when the giant ice cannons deliver an icy blast, it’s hard to imagine a clubbing experience to match it.
Amnesia Terrace is a special room that is built for optimum atmosphere, which is exactly what it witnesses week in week out; hosted by Mixmag once again with Laidback Luke and his Super You & Me party making a few appearances. The tempo might be slightly slower than the main room but the vibe is equally fierce, Laidback Luke, Calvin Harris, Example, Chris Lake, Benny Benassi, AN21 & Max Vangeli are just some of the protagonists that showcase their art in the smaller space. This summer has only just reached halfway, the temperatures are peaking and the attendance in clubs across the island is going through the roof. For Cream lovers, the advice is get down early on Thursday night or risk being on the outside looking in.
