It’s Sunday and the opening of We Love has finally arrived. It doesn’t seem like a year that I was running up and down Playa D’en Bossa looking for me car, which had been lifted, but here we are and once again We Love has delivered another cracking opening fiesta, a veritable Circus Of Sound, led by the likes of Carl Craig, Derrick May, Henrik Schwarz, Dixon, Ame, Tensnake and Paul Wolford, to name only the tip of the talented iceberg! From 7pm until 7am the cream of the world’s electronic artists and DJs has descended on Space and by the looks of the throngs headed through Playa Den Bossa, they will not be alone.

Last year we spent the majority of our pre-midnight party in the sunset Terrace before hitting La Distoteca, this year we decided to change things up a bit. After a quick wander round the rooms, as they all start to open, we stick with Jaymo and Andy George for a bit. After taking up residence in the Sunset Terrace last summer, the duo proceeded to make it their own throughout the summer, inviting a few special guests to join them along the way. With their star very much still in the ascendancy, they have built up a strong following and the room is packed for their performance. Deep and chunky beats, cool hooks, the odd melody or three and some deck wizardry ensures that everyone is well looked after.

Innervisions made a huge impact on the Terrace last year, most of which we missed because Space has so many rooms and We Love insist on filling them with the most amazing talent. This year we decide that this is where we will camp out most of the night. With Dixon and Ame delivering DJ sets and Henrik Schwarz and Tensnake performing live, it promised to be another one to remember. The beats are deep and hypnotic, just how we like them, and if we are totally honest, we kind of lost track of who was on when, it’s hard to keep up when you are buried in the heart of the dancefloor. What we can tell you is that the tunes were first class from start to finish; the live performances were worthy of the setting and the night finished far too early.
There were brief forays out of the Terrace to take in the rest of the night, I may have said this before but there is nothing more reassuring, as a fan of the club scene, than to see Alfredo behind the DJ booth. Not only does he still have it, dropping Balearic bombs like it was what he was born to do, but he does it with an incredible ear to ear grin that is nothing short of infectious. His room is full of happy, smiley faces and everything is good with the world. We did manage to also catch bits of We Love residents Jason Bye, Jem Haynes and Ryan O’Gorman who are all seasoned Ibiza DJs that have that knack of filling a dancefloor, no matter what time of night it is or which room they are playing in. All in all, it’s fair to say that We Love Space Sundays is officially open and in good hands for summer 2012.
