Café Mambo has a habit of delivering special events on a regular basis; who could forget Jamie Cullum playing ‘You’ve Got The Love’ at Sunset a few years back or Carl Cox and the Brand New Heavies performing live on the terrace at the end of last summer or coser to home the Mambo In The Mix event which raised over 27,000 euros on the night for Ibiza and Formentera Red Cross and saw the world’s top DJs serving drinks behind the bar! Mambo has a knack of giving its loyal clientele something special for free and tonight is no different. In cinjunction with Burn and Mamboats, they present Wake To The Beat, an exhibition from three of the world’s finest wake boarders, in the waters right in front of the Café, an extra special sunset performance.
Sunset at café Mambo is often a chilled, spiritual affair, as established residents time their tune selection to perfection and celebrate the setting of the sun with an appropriately dramatic, melancholic moment. Tonight we have three talented wake boarders, Sam Carne, Matt Crowhurst and Johnny Carne, all from the UK, who will be delivering death defying feats on top of their board, powered through the water by the master craft of Mamboats. Having been on the boats several times, we are fully aware of the speed they can reach and having personally gripped the inflatable donught handles and tried to stay on them at these speeds, I have a real appreciation for anyone that can stay vertical on a wake board let alone do what these guys are capable of.
Music accompaniement for the event comes from the three winers of the Ibiza Burn Residency summer programme which saw would be DJs from all over the world compete to win an Ibiza residency, party of which saw them play at Mambo previously, tonight, Adam Zasada, Manu Vulcano and Urban Jeram have the booth to themselves. The excitement on shore as the boarders get ready to start their show is palpable, there is something very cool about witnessing this type of talent, I’m not sure if it’s because we couldn’t ever see ourselves doing this type of thing or whether the danger factor gives it that added edge, but its there. Sam, Matt and Johnny proceed to perform somersaults in mid air, get their bodies to ridiculous heights out of the water, fly off specially prepared ramps and as it gets dark do the whole thing holding flares! It’s an amazing show and one that the huge crowd gathered outside Mambo is delighted to have witnessed.
The mamboats is an amazing day out and one that became very popular throughout the debut season for them. They have their own water sports equipment so if anyone fancied trying their hand at wake boarding, the guys are fully qualified to teach you. For me, I think I might stick to holding on to the inflatable or going swimming off the boat. Check them out, when you are looking at what clubs to visit next summer in Ibiza, make sure you add in a day on the mamboats, you will never forget it!
