The Power Breakfast

Breakfast, they say, is the most important meal of the day. Probably why there are so many variations across the world, from the simple bowl of cereal and milk, to platters of cold meat, fried bacon, sausages and eggs or a croissant, what does what we have for breakfast say about us? Even the beverage offers great choice, freshly squeezed juice, water – still or sparkling, coffee or tea? We love a good breakfast here at EI headquarters, having been fortunate enough to do a bit of travelling, there’s nothing makes you happier to find yourself at the breakfast buffet of a five star hotel. Here in Ibiza, there are numerous options on how to start your day but we have yet to find one that can match the spread that Musset puts on. If you’ve been following our exploits since we started you will know that we view Musset as our home away from home, the second office, indeed, much of the site was pulled together in the cool restaurant at the start of last summer. When Bianca invited the team to have one of our now customary meetings in her establishment while she provided breakfast, we never hesitated for a second!

The outside terrace is a popular spot in Musset, bathed in sunshine during the summer months and the perfect spot to people watch no matter what time of year. It’s busy this morning, the sun is out but there are a few more layers on show than normal, it is the business end of October after all! Coffee and tea and some freshly squeezed orange juice is the perfect start as we look back on what has been a busy week. The clubs might be closed but Ibiza carries on regardless, just with a whole lot less fuss. Musset is a popular meeting place for villagers and islanders, people come and go all day, grabbing a coffee, talking over proposals, shooting the breeze or grabbing food, depending on the time of day. At breakfast time there’s a real buzz about the place, the day has yet to fully get under way but there’s a genuine optimism in the air and it makes for a vibrant start to the morning.

On the food front, I mentioned the thrill of the breakfast buffet in grand hotels around, well, imagine that scale and quality without the need to actually move off your seat to choose your food. Fresh fruit, muesli and yoghurt is a favourite of mine so I couldn’t resist, the combination of the three ingredients is delicious, not to mention healthy! Musset is also adept at delivering the perfect full English but on this occasion we are looking to some of the other breakfast delights. Toast with tomato salsa and avocado with a bowl of fruit and yoghurt is another popular choice that doesn’t stand a chance as it is laid down on the table.

The huge plate of meats, cheeses and salmon that is placed in the centre of the table is met with huge grins all round, not a great deal of work being discussed at this particular meeting if we are being honest but when you are in the presence of the ultimate breakfast, it’s best to concentrate on the food. We are quickly assembling our own personal breakfast buffet! Boiled eggs as well as scrambled eggs with fresh salmon and cream cheese and a selection of toasted breads and croissants are the final addition and at his point the mouths are well and truly watering. Everything is delicious, and we all agree it’s as good a breakfast as we’ve had in a while, maybe we should be getting to Musset a little earlier in future?

The restaurant becomes more of a hub in the winter as people tend to stay close to home and breakfast is a popular meal for them. The tables outside are all occupied as we make our way through the monumental task of eating our food and there are a few people who have chosen to sit inside the stylish restaurant. Our trusty photographer only usually sees this time of the morning when he is coming back from the club, he can’t believe the activity that goes on while he usually unconscious, it’s like a whole new world has been discovered. If breakfast is in fact the most important meal of the day then where better to enjoy it than Musset?
