The Bermuda Boat Party goes out daily, leaving from Playa D’en Bossa, catering to different crowds and musical tastes each time. The one constant is that once you have paid for your ticket, you don’t need any more money! EZ, boat organiser, explains that his ticket sellers are experienced and find out what kind of music the prospective sailors favour before suggesting the best day for their trip, also, once they work out the main nationality of the people coming aboard they can budget the alcohol accordingly, apparently if its British they need to get more stock on board. Who would have thought it?
Sonica Radio is an ever present on the Bermuda boat and, having heard some of the live broadcasts throughout the summer, we are looking forward to getting involved, come to think of it, there are not many events that happen on the island that Ibiza Sonica don’t get involved! Check in is at 14.30 with a strict 14.45 boarding time, Bermuda is slightly different from the normal boat party that sails lout into the Med for four hours partying then returns. Bermuda leaves just before three O’clock, returning at 22.00. Seven hours at sea, I hear you say! You head off to Formentera, where you spend a few hours on an idyllic beach, before heading back home, it’s more of a day trip with cool DJs than a simple boat party.
The boat doesn’t take long to get under way but Playa D’en Bossa isn’t even out of sight when the engines stop and we drop anchor. Bermuda has a professional jet ski stunt rider who takes people in turn for a white knuckle spin around the boat, spectacularly dumping each one in the ocean when their turn is up! Trusty Essentialibiza cameraman Nic, always game for a laugh, is one of the first volunteers, begging the driver for a “slow ride”! Exactly what we were thinking when we heard it!
Back in the boat and we’re off, this time bound for Formentera. Bermuda resident DJRTLP is in charge of the DJ booth and is delivering a cool, chunky house set. There are almost as many pourers as party animals on the boat, or at least it feels that way as every couple of minutes our glasses are filled up, with canapes and sandwiches promised for later, they really have thought of everything. The crowd is pretty cosmopolitan, with accents from all over Europe, we like this, it’s great to spend time with our European cousins, especially with a kick ass sound system for company.
In what seems like no time at all, we are dropping anchor once again, this time amongst some of the finest vessels we have seen up close. Luxury yachts of all shapes and sizes are moored just off of Formentera and after a spot of swimming, we climb on board the Rib, which ferries people from the boat to the beach, which will be base camp for the next couple pf hours. Formentera beach is a stunning as everyone says it is, with a tranquillity that has no room for looky looky men selling their wares. There is no pumping sound system on every corner, just us, the golden sand, the crystal blue sea and a cloudless sky. Time to recharge the batteries, cover ourselves in suntan lotion and lie back and enjoy the afternoon. It’s the perfect foil for the madness of the boat.
The heat starts to go out of the sun letting us know that we have spent a couple of hours sunbathing and that our boat will be returning shortly. Having spent some time on numerous boats so far this summer, we are enjoying the variety that Bermuda offers. There is no doubt that the boat party is THE thing to do this summer but this is more of a boat adventure. They have really got themselves something unique. The boat duly arrives, carrying with it the entertainment for the journey back, none other than Cristian Varela, winner of the island’s best techno award on numerous occasions recently. His ‘Pornographic’ label, co-owned with Marco Bailey has also enjoyed a successful season at Eden this summer where they have invited some of the world’s finest techno DJs to perform. Yet another pleasant twist in the Bermuda tale. They have a series of world class DJs booked for this summer, including the likes of Audiofly, Christian Smith, Marco Bailey and Anthony Rother, to name only a few. The giant sound system cranks up, the engines roar once again and the journey home begins; Bermuda is much more than a boat party, it’s a party, an adventure, an experience, an opportunity to get up close and personal with the world’s best DJs and, most importantly, it’s a day full of fun from start to finish! ON the way back, as the sun drops, it turns the whole sky orange, with Es Vedra as a backdrop, it provides another one of those Ibiza moments.
