Sirocco Succumbs To Youth Invasion

This is our first visit to Sirocco this summer, there is so much goin on in Ibiza these days, trying to keep up with everything is like an episode of the Japanese endurance test. Sirocco is situated at the bottom end of Playa d’en Bossa, owned by the brother of legendary Ibiza DJ Pippi, it is a cool beach bar with a unique décor. It’s somewhere between Berlin and Thailand but with the unbelievable atmosphere that an Ibiza party brings. Tonight we are off to check out Youth Invasion Muzik, who have taken over the cool bar, with the help of some able bodied recruits in the shape of Dan Ghenacia, Dyed Soundorom, Andrew Grant, System Of Survival, Negru, Tato, Garagem, Willie Graf and Pagal.

Sirocco

Youth Invasion Muzik is a forward thinking label and agency collective, built on the truest traditions of house and electronic music with a focus on new ideas and harnessing the power and energy of youth. It brings together celebrated artists and DJs, committed to quality house music and nurtures new talent, many of whom are on show tonight. It promises to be a great party. It’s that time of year when there is a slight chill in the air and with the waves lapping onto the beach as we arrive at Sirocco, it gives the beach party a real edge. Many of the DC10 crowd are here, as are some of the talented individuals that play at the club on a regular basis, that means that the music is of a high quality and the atmosphere is building nicely. Ibiza has an uncanny knack of providing the opportunity to have unfrgattable parties in unusual locations and as the clouds gather in the dark sky above Playa d’en Bossa and the beats get deep, I can’t help but be thankful that this is the place I get to call home, for the summer months at least.

There are DJ double acts galore, System of Survival deliver a chunky but cool set, their album ‘Needle And Thread’ is causing quite a stir on the underground scene and the talented duo has no trouble in making sure the floor is moving. Circo Loco resident Garagem is also joined behind the decks by NYC’s Willie Graff, two experts when it comes to deep underground house and garage and a pair of outstanding DJs, blending music perfectly and building a really cool vibe in the beach bar. People are dancing inside as well as out as the atmosphere continues to build.

Dan Ghenacia and Dyed Soundorom have played back to back on numerous occasions over the past few years, this season has also seen them unleash their new band Apollonia on the DC10 faithful, a back to back to back combo that also includes Shonky. The three amigos have also launched a label of the same name so keep an eye out for more from them. They treat Sirocco to another back to back set, which is building perfectly until the mixer makes some unusual noises and almost explodes. It takes twenty minutes to get it working again but in true Ibiza style, the clubbers that have come out to check out the party are patient and, if anything, the tension has built even further, resulting in a roar of approval when the beat finally kicks back in. DJs exercise more nostalgic creativity when they hit the beach, dropping classics into the set and generating huge reactions when they do so, the likes of Pamela Fernandez ‘Kickin In The Beat’ and ‘Apt 2A’ by NY Hous’n Authority are only a couple that catch the ear. With other commitments to meet we dragged ourselves away at midnight with the party still in full swing. Note to self, spend more rime in Sirocco next summer!
