Sensational Seafood At Atzaró Beach Restaurant

With its stunning crystal clear waters and unrivalled local seafood produce, it’s hard to think of a better place to enjoy a meal by the seaside than the Balearic island of Ibiza. And the bright and breezy Atzaró Beach Restaurant in Cala Nova provides beautiful surroundings and a relaxed atmosphere to enhance the experience even further.

Part of the renowned Atzaró Group, which has become famous for its atmospheric venues – all of which embrace the breath-taking nature of the island – the elegant destination has brought the brand’s signature charm, quality food and inimitable ambience to the beach, a concept that has won the hearts of residents and holidaymakers alike.

As the White Isle is currently enjoying perfect beach weather, we decided to treat ourselves to a girly lunch at Atzaró Beach Restaurant and check out the new additions to the eatery’s menu. With an extensive drinks menu that features a long list of healthy juices, we opted for a delicious detox aided by a bright green Popeye juice – which was surprisingly sweet despite its ingredients of spinach, lemon, celery and apple – and the tropical Beach concoction, a vitamin-rich mix of strawberry, carrot, apple and ginger.

Before our starters arrived, the welcoming team treated us to a healthy ‘chupito’ shot of watermelon and orange juice, zesty and refreshing and a perfect palette cleanser on a hot day. With our table overlooking the glittering sea from the restaurant’s elevated position on the cliffs of Cala Nova, we toasted the afternoon ahead, mesmerised by the incredible shades of blue sparkling in the sunlight. For starters, we shared a plate of crunchy battered king prawns served on a bed of wakame seaweed and with a sweet and sour chilli vinegraitte. The juicy meat of the prawns was contrasted by the crispiness of the batter, and each of the juicy sticks disappeared at lightning speed. We also tucked into a green seafood salad boasting generous chunks of scallops and fresh king prawns, each bite wowing with the subtle flavours of the Balearic Sea.

While we waited for our next course, we couldn’t resist a little look around Atzaró Beach Restaurant’s onsite fashion boutique, which is filled with gorgeous embroidered leather handbags, statement swimwear, eye-catching jewellery pieces and colourful dresses that can easily take you from beach to party. Atzaró Beach Restaurant also offers massages and a dedicated children’s area to keep younger guests occupied, making it the perfect day out for all the family. Back at the table, we were ready to retox with an exotic tasting cava variety of the classic sangria cocktail, which burst with tropical fruits such as the star-shaped carambola and sweet banana slices.

When our main courses arrived, we swooned over the delicate and soft texture of juicy beef carpaccio topped with peppery rocket and generous shavings of parmesan. A bowl of black squid ink pasta was cooked to al dente perfection and filled with a generous helping of king prawns and mussels topped with a mild variety of chilli for an extra kick. We also couldn’t resist sharing a huge platter of the classic Ibicencan dish bullit de peix con arroz a banda, a fish stew that, at Atzaró Beach Restaurant, is made with monk fish, snapper and denton, as well as delightfully chunky potatoes. Dressed in an aioli and saffron sauce, the soft meat of the fish virtually melted in our mouths, a contrast to the crumbling density of the potato, while the tangy sauce provided a sharp garlic kick. As is tradition, a giant pan filled with a thin layer of rice cooked in the fish juices followed, jam-packed with pieces of squid and bursting with a rich flavour. It’s a great way to enjoy an authentic flavour of the island while sharing food with friends.

Having indulged heavily already we decided to go lighter on the desserts, sharing a delicate yoghurt mousse sweetened with a mango coulis and a layered fruit salad with a caramelised layer of cream cheese on top, both lush and rich in flavour but easy to digest following our carb-heavy feast. With so much goodness in our stomachs to go down, there was only one thing for it: sprawl out on the spacious Bali beds and enjoy a cheeky afternoon nap!
