The sun is out but the temperature hasn’t quite hit a sunbathing number just yet but it’s Friday, which is always a good day, and all roads lead to sunset strip San Antonio for the opening of Savannah and our first sunset of the year. Savannah has always been slightly over shadowed by her older sister Mambo, which is possibly the most famous beach bar in the world, although in recent years, it has gradually made a name for itself. It offers a slightly more chilled affair, enjoying amazing sunset views and delivering a relaxed place to chill and enjoy a cocktail. Savannah however has a very naughty secret, the back room has one of the finest sound systems on the island and it offers the most amazing atmosphere when it kicks off, which is regularly! Tonight, the men charged with that responsibility include Jason Bye, Andy Baxter, DJ Oliver, Heath Holme and James Reid.
Savannah is already quite busy when we arrive and many of the island’s faces have turned out for the opening. Ibiza Rocks’ Andy Mckay and Paul Tucker of the Lighthouse Family are amongst the crowd showing support. Savannah has undergone some subtle lighting changes and the menu has been beefed up from light bites to more substantial meals, which will prove a popular decision this summer for sure. We opt for a burger and it arrives on a bed of tomato and onion, with a healthy bit of cheese melted over it, cooked to perfection. This is a menu we plan on exploring further as the season unfolds.
Although there is a bite in the air and everyone is layered up accordingly, the sunset is a beauty, perfect for the opening party and really whets the appetite for the summer ahead. There are numerous amazing spots around Ibiza to enjoy the sun going down but surely none more popular than sunset strip? As the sun disappears and the last heat goes with it, it’s time to move the party indoors. The beats are cool and funky, the room is packed and the atmosphere is already simmering. Ibiza is ready for the tourist invasion, Savannah parties on until 4AM, proving that she can give her sister a run for her money, summer 2012 is just around the corner and Savannah is more than ready for what it offers.
