Last weekend saw the Red Bull Flugtag return to Ibiza as those magnificent men in their flying machines built and tried to fly various contraptions off a custom built runway overlooking the Ibiza Town harbour. The atmosphere was amazing as all shapes and sizes of craft took it in turn to launch themselves off the end of the runway with the hope of taking to the skies, even if it is just for a few seconds.
A huge crowd gathered by the site at the port in Ibiza Town and the expectation levels rose as the start of the event got closer. From the outset there were a few of the flying machines that quite clearly would never make it off the ground but there were a few that might, just might manage to defy gravity. The crowd was on tender hooks as the first machine took to the runway, a huge cheer builds as they make it to the top, only to plummet into the water at the other side.
All sorts of people had made the effort and got involved in one of the more fun concepts to come from the energy drink giant, businesses from all over the island were represented, even clubbing giant Ushuaia had a machine entered, piloted by none other than Yann himself! Unfortunately, like so many that had gone before them, they couldn’t cheat gravity and everyone that took part ended up taking a dip in the water! Hats off to everyone that took part, clearly a lot of time and effort went into building their machines, not to mention the courage that was needed to fly them off the end of a very high platform indeed! Maybe they should have taken a drink first, apparently Red Bull gives you wings!
