If you’re looking for a stylish spot to swim, chill and enjoy good food and music with your friends, make sure you to put the beautiful Sol House Ibiza Mixed By Ibiza Rocks on the top of your list, a hotspot right by the bay of San Antonio that offers the perfect place to spend a leisurely afternoon – and stay until the sun goes down. Now in its second season, the trendy property has made for a popular – and much needed – addition to the Cala Pinet area, offering hotel guests and visitors alike a cool place to chill out during the hot summer days.

We went for a lunch with friends at the sleek abode’s Playbar, which is located right next to the sparkling blue pool and the spacious chill out area on the lower ground floor. Funky, fun and fabulous, the first of the many details we got excited about was our actual table, a remodelled ping pong table that granted us plenty of space to gather around and enjoy our food. Music is a big part of the experience, with talented DJs providing an expertly mixed soundtrack to your afternoon, and we spotted island-favourite Camilo Miranda in the booth, spinning the finest in laid-back house beats.

Getting caught up in the feel-good atmosphere of the place, we conceded it would be positively rude not to toast the occasion with a round of refreshing cocktails. A frozen double daiquiri mixed tropical kiwi with sweet strawberry flavours, the perfect ice cold drink to combat the sweltering July heat with, while the watermelon mojito offered a light and unusual take on the classic recipe. Amongst friends, sharing is caring as the old adage goes, and so we ordered a selection of indulgent platters to tuck into.

A huge bowl of nachos came topped with molten cheese and spicy jalapenos, served up with a selection of dips such as zesty tomato salsa and creamy guacamole to stave off any hunger pangs. Potato skins loaded with cheese and bacon disappeared in a heartbeat, while juicy chicken wings and tender chicken nuggets left us fighting for the last bites. Those who prefer a lighter bite should try Playbar’s take on the classic Caesar salad, breaded pieces of chicken served on a bed of leaves, tomato slices and boiled eggs, with a sprinkle of parmesan cheese to add to taste.

Our eyes nearly popped out of our heads when we saw our mains approaching, a huge burger and an equally impressive rack of ribs. The soft bun was fully loaded with a tasty beef patty, golden molten cheese, streaky bacon and a generous helping of onions, gherkins, tomato slices and lettuce leaves. Accompanied by chunky fries, it was a burger fiend’s idea of heaven on a plate. The meat lovers at our table swooned over the ginormous ribs, smothered in a bourbon glaze and falling off the bone easily. The trendy purple potato crisps on the side added a crunchy edge to the soft meat, and also looked rather cool in our Insta pics, if we may say so!

After sating our appetites, we were dying to jump into the pool and grab one of the cool donut inflatables we had spotted earlier, but lovely F&B manager Omar told us to head up to the slick Rooftop Nine instead, where he had reserved two sun loungers – and a plate of sweet treats – for us! Getting in early to find a spot to watch the sunset later, we laid back and soaked up the rays while picking our favourite bits from a colourful fruit platter bursting with grapes, mango, strawberries, blueberries and kiwi.

Those with a sweet tooth will be delighted with the plate of petit fours, which included delights such as chocolate eclairs, mini carrot cake bites and layered chocolate cake. A little snooze and one refreshing swim in the incredible infinity pool later, we were ready to wait for the sun to go down, cocktails in hand. With a funky house soundtrack curated by the Sol House Ibiza resident talent drifting into our ears and the sky slowly turning from blue, to orange and pastel pink, we felt very close to heaven indeed!
