Pooldisco Closes In Style

Under a blanket of streamers and confetti, the curtain fell on the spectacular Ibiza debut of Pooldisco. The east London pool party brought a touch of glitz and glamour to Playa d’en Bossa this summer and a combination of talented DJs and outrageous hosts made it one of the most popular parties on the beach. Pooldisco and Ushuaia was always going to be a match made in heaven, the two concepts share so much in common and, as the 2012 summer residency showed, the synergy between the two brands resulted in some magical moments in the unique hotel setting.

From the minute Pooldisco took up residency in Ushuaia at the end of June it has been a welcome addition to the Ibiza calendar, the weekly show brought a real sense of theatre to our Saturday nights out and the quality of music throughout the summer was more than a match for most clubs. Chunky beats delievered by talented residents and an array of carefully chosen guests, all clearly revelling in the opportunity of taking control of the giant elevated booth. With an engaging crowd as far as the eye can see, how could anyone fail to perform on the Ushuaia stage?

For the closing party, it was the turn of ONNO, Raul Rodriguez, Paul Reynolds and Dan Beaumont and Hannah Holland b2b to entertain the huge Ushuaia crowd, with a little help for Roy INC, Tamar Wilde, Johanna Londinium and Tristan Temple and didn’t they do a great job! When we arrived, Dan and Hannah were already in control of the booth, delivering a wicked set that moved seamlessly between dark and moody and chunky and uplifting house, with a sprinkling of cool vocals dropped in for good measure. The crowd lapped it up and the atmosphere was electric, the perfect send off for a party that has won an army of new friends over the course of the summer.

We accepted an invitation from Mark Herman, Pooldisco creator and Mitch Clark, Queen of Ibiza, to join them at their table at the front of the VIP. Normally the VIP section can be a little stuffy but not for Pooldisco and certainly not tonight, it’s just an extension of the crowd as everyone is on their feet enjoying the last few hours of this amazing party. Pop stars and sports stars mix effortlessly with clubbers as Hannah and Dan play a blinder, just as well it’s an outdoor arena, I’m not sure any roof would have survived! Roy INC is on MC duties and provides vocal support throughout the performance, engaging the crowd, overseeing a hosts dance off and thanking the crowd repeatedly for its support throughout the debut season.

Raul Rodriguez is passed the baton and goes about taking the party home, carrying on the chunky soundtrack and adding to the atmosphere as Pooldisco builds to a dramatic climax. The huge ice cannons delivered sporadic bursts, clouding the huge dancefloor for a few seconds before disappearing into the Ibiza night, the confetti cannons became more frequent as we neared the end of the party, at one stage it felt like it was snowing! By this point we were up on the stage, looking out across a sea of happy faces, you really can’t beat the experience of partying outdoors. In no time at all, the last tune finished, the satisfied crowd erupted for the last time, the confetti hit the deck and it was time to leave. Pooldisco Ibiza has come to an end for this summer but the achievement of filling the huge venue every Saturday is a memory that will live long. The Pooldisco crew has a busy winter ahead, check the Pooldisco website for details of where you can catch them as they plan their assault for next summer, see you in 2013!
