It’s Saturday October 13 and the roadside marker tells us that e are nearing KM5, Ibiza’s premier avant-garden, as it invites the beautiful people of the island down for one that hurrah! KM 5 is a stunning venue that lends itself to any event with ease, whether it’s a special diner, an upmarket brand launch, a fashion show, or like tonight, a plain old knees up to celebrate another fantastic summer season.

The ultimate justification of the phrase, if you build it they will come, as many of the faces from across the island, numerous nationalities and age groups has descended on KM 5 to bid her farewell for the winter. The melting pot of ages and nationalities makes for a vibrant atmosphere inside the famous old venue, which is looking as fresh as the day it opened. The party starts in the garden, where Ibiza’s fashionistas get to show off their autumn wardrobe as jumpers, cardigans, jackets and scarves are added to the summer attire to fend of the evening chill that accompanies October.

Ibiza Sonica FM are here, of course they are, they are omnipresent on the island, and even off it. There’s not a worthwhile party that goes on that doesn’t get broadcast around the world, partly to include friends of the island in the parties that they are missing and I’m sure partly to ask the question, why are you not here? Having listened to numerous broadcasts of parties that I am on my way to, they really do give you an exact feeling for the event. Thankfully, this time round, we are not stuck at home looking out of the window at the UK winter but instead have our zippers on and are here in person, witnessing the excitement first hand.

KM5 is packed, it’s clearly a popular place that embraces all throughout the summer as everyone has returned the favour and come to give her a hug before she heads off to hibernation until next season. As the temperature drops and, as the song says, time marches on, we head inside, to the intimate club space and a chunky sound system, expertly manned by Graham Sahara. One of the finest residents on the island, Graham takes control of the ever growing crowd and drops bomb after bomb on the dancefloor, ensuring that much dancing is done. No thoughts of the cold wind outside now as the layers are stripped off and the party really gets under way. KM5 goes out in style, here’s hoping for a speedy winter and we can start the whole thing over again in 2013!
