International Music Summit 2017 (IMS) gets underway with the annual legends dinner on Wednesday may 24, which this year honours Pacha founder Ricrado Urgell, as his famous brand celebrates its 50th anniversary, before heading to Pacha Ibiza afterwards for the official opening party for this year’s summit, where Masters At Work, Black Madonna, Agoria and Alex Kennon will shoulder responsibility of getting the summit off to a flyer.

The IMS Legends Award is awarded to true pioneers in the electronic music community, those that have made an outstanding contribution to the industry and there is no more deserving than Ricardo Urgell. Having launched Pacha half a century ago, the club evolved into a lifestyle brand that incorporates clubs, hotels, restaurants and shops, its flagship venue in Ibiza has been an inspiration to generations of clubbers and featured many of the world’s hottest DJs and producers as well as club brands, throughout its island tenure. Previous recipients of the IMS Legends Award include Nile Rogers, Fatboy Slim, Pete Tong, Sven Väth and Carl Cox.

Ricardo Urgell says “With much hard work over five decades I never lost sight of my vision, I have had the pleasure of creating some very special places around the world where several generations of people have been able to enjoy the rhythm of the dancefloor. I cannot be prouder to see how the Pacha Group is recognized worldwide, and my great desire for the 50th anniversary of the brand is that the cherries survive and continue to bring people pleasure, as they have done so far throughout history.” IMs co-founder Ben Turner says: “Ibiza is defined by Pacha. It is the venue that seduced myself and all of my IMS partners in some way, with most of us collaborating with the brand over the last 20 years. Ricardo Urgell is a true maverick, a true conductor of the night and with it one of the most poetic and imaginative creatives in nightlife – period. The global electronic music scene would be very different today without his influence and the joy his truly global brand has given to millions of people around the world, let alone the careers of many DJ’s who made their name under the roof of the cherry logos. We are proud to honour him in this way. His influence extends way beyond nightlife, but to global culture as a whole.”

After the dinner, attention turns to Pacha Ibiza, for the official IMS Opening party. Headlining the party is Masters At Work, aka ‘Little’ Louie Vega and Kenny ‘Dope’ Gonzalez, a duo that needs no introduction. Having delivered many of the seminal house tunes of the last decade and a half, not to mention countless fantastic remixes, Masters At Work have sound tracked more than one generations musical journey. The duo doesn’t get together as much these days, so when you get the chance to catch them together, you take advantage. The line-up also includes Blacvk Madonna, one of the hottest artists of recent years, as well as Ibiza favourite Agoria and Pacha resident Alex Kennon for what promises to be the first huge party of the season and a fitting start to this year’s summit.
