The White Isle has plenty of brilliant spots to watch the sunset and enjoy great music at, but, since last weekend, a hot new venue that combines dizzying height with expansive views, a well curated musical programme and heaps of style will have to be added to our must-experience list of sundown destinations.

Sol House mixed by Ibiza Rocks, an aspirational and sleek new accommodation in San Antonio’s Punta Pinet masterminded by the Melia Group in cooperation with the team behind the iconic party and hotel brand, opened the lofty doors to its rooftop terrace on July 9th to throw the first of many spectacular open-air events. Melia hotels are, of course, renowned for their sophisticated abodes all over the world, while Ibiza Rocks has gifted the island not only the original party hotel of the same name, but also helped to breathe new live into one of Ibiza’s most iconic venues, Pikes Hotel. The aim for the cool new Sol House Mixed by Ibiza Rocks was to create a place that offers savvy holidaymakers and music lovers a beautiful home away from home and is aware of the needs of the modern-day traveller, without blowing their budget.

Walking through the lobby, which had a DJ booth set up to greet guests with the finest of tunes from the word go, we could already tell it was going to be a big night as we spotted the stylish crowd, containing many of Ibiza’s movers and shakers, make their way to Rooftop Nine. When the lift doors sprung open, first impressions were pretty much breathtaking. Rising high over the bay of San Antonio, the bar grants unspoiled views over the vast expanse of the Mediterranean sea, and watching the sky turn from gold into fiery red before the sunset fades into pink and purple pastels is nothing short of amazing. Taking pride of place in the centre of the space is the square bar, decorated with funky accessories like golden pineapple containers, swinging monkey statues and a giant ROCK sign made from exposed light bulbs. To the left and right, comfy sun loungers invite you to soak up the sun during the day or admire the views with a cocktail in hand at night.

In keeping with the funky theme, the food was equally eye catching, with mini sliders in neon colours circulating around the roof and making us feel like Alice in Wonderland. A buffet offered delicious a selection of Spanish treats and modern European finger foods, including a creamy mushroom risotto, blue cheese croquetas and chorizo wrapped in roast sweet potato slices. The drinks kept flowing all night and guests enjoyed mingling in the stunning outdoor space, catching up with friends and having a little dance-along to the funky soundtrack that started to get people excited for the headlining act of the night.

Of course, it wouldn’t be an Ibiza Rocks party without killer music entertainment and as ever, the crew had something extra special in store for us! Performing only their third ever official gig, the Ibiza House Orchestra took to the stage shortly after 9pm for an epic set that saw them fire up the crowd with their signature sound of turning classic dance anthems into instrumental and vocal masterpieces. Having been lucky enough to watch the 14-piece perform earlier in the year at The Healing Festival – read our exclusive interview here – we already knew that the party would now kick off in earnest, as we have yet to find someone who can resist jumping up from their chair when the band comes on. Opening with an atmospheric live version of Fatboy Slim’s Right Here Right Now, the group soon had everyone up on their feet as they played one hit after the next, including Lola’s Theme, Good Luck and, a new addition for the encore, Most Precious Love. Maxing out every last minute, guests – including ourselves – hung around long after Ibiza House Orchestra had finished, enjoying a last glass of wine and watching the glittering lights across the bay. With a summer of amazing Sol Sessions on the roof already planned out, you should make sure you swing by this season for cocktails and beats underneath the stars.
