What is it about Sunday lunch that has us Brits salivating at the thought of the tender meat and Yorkshire pudding? Are we the only nation that sits down on a Sunday and stuffs ourselves until we can hardly move? Is it pure coincidence that live football kicks off at 4pm every Sunday? Wherever you spend your holidays, you know you are sure to find that one British pub that serves Sunday lunch and you instantly feel part of an extended family as you take your seat amongst strangers to partake in that weekly food ritual. Ibiza is no different from the rest of the world but in the same way that Ibiza clubs are light years away from normal holiday venues, Ibiza Rocks House At Pikes Hotel is not your average British pub abroad and when you sit down to enjoy your roast here, you are actually surrounded by friends, some you know already and some you have just met. There is a great sense of community in the surroundings of one of the world’s most famous hotels.

As we take our seats for Sunday lunch we are regretting starving ourselves before we got here because the urge to nip over to one of the other tables to say hello and do a bit of plate invading is proving great! Pikes Hotel has become Ibiza Rocks House At Pikes Hotel this year as the team behind the hugely successful Ibiza Rocks has taken over this Ibiza landmark and through their after parties for the bands that play at Ibiza Rocks and the now famous Sunday lunch they have encouraged a few regulars to return to as well as attracting a new wave of visitors to the hotel that featured in the Wham ‘Club Tropicana’ video and hosted the notorious birthday party for Freddie Mercury. Historically, Pikes has been the popular stopping place of celebrities from all over the world, if only these walls could talk! The menus are on the back of album covers form the ’80s, it’s this attention to detail that makes all the difference, ordering food from an old Alarm album and wine off of INXS’ Kick album just seems right given our current location.

When our food arrives it’s not hard to understand why this has become a popular Sunday afternoon tradition for so many on the island. Everything is delivered in huge serving dishes to the middle of our table and we are left to dig in, like you would if you were at home with your real family. It’s a nice touch that really gives that homely feel to the occasion and the food is amazing. We opted for a beef, lamb and pork combo, making sure we get to taste everything on offer. The portions are healthy, you will do well to clear your plate, the meat melts in the mouth and the vegetables are cooked to perfection, my mouth is watering even now thinking about the meal! Friendly staff are on hand to make sure you have everything you need and they are not opposed to getting involved in a bit of friendly banter, it all adds up to a unique dining experience and a breath of fresh air from stuffy restaurants that have more in common with a library than a social occasion.

After dinner we adjourn to the terrace overlooking the pool where DJ Antz is playing a mixture of cool new beats with a sprinkling of classic house thrown in, the perfect way to work that dinner down. There is a great atmosphere around the pool as many of the residents are getting ready for their big night out, enjoying some cocktails around the legendary pool and dancing to some of the finest beats put together by one of our favourite DJs on the island. Sunday lunch at Ibiza Rocks House At Pikes Hotel is the perfect way to unwind after along week, catch up with friends, enjoy top quality food in a comfortable atmosphere before letting your hair down to the perfect end of week sound track. See you next Sunday!
