The Hotel Garbi in Playa D’en Bossa is one of the island’s unsung heroes. It goes about its business quietly and efficiently, with the confidence of an business that operates at its maximum throughout the season. It doesn’t court the headlines instead it spends its energy exceeding the expectations of its ever increasing army of cosmopolitan clients from around the world.
The only four or five star hotel on the island that sits right on the beach, the beautiful stretch of Bossa beach is the first thing that hits your toes when you step off the stair in front of the outside cafe. This particular area of the island has enjoyed a surge in popularity in recent years and rightly credit for the transformation has gone to the numerous beach clubs and restaurants that have sprung up along the beach front but you would be foolish to underestimate the contribution made by this stylish hotel. It underwent a multi-million euro makeover recently, making it one of the best destinations on the island, no matter which type of holiday you are after.
During 2011 i had course to spend a bit of time in the hotel, when friends planning their forthcoming island wedding used it, when mates from home chose Ibiza as a stag destination and laterally when my parents decided to try the island for their holiday. Three very different groups and every one of them left satisfied, if a little sad to be waving goodbye to the hotel. The facilities are second to none, the location is better than most, the style is faultless and as if that weren’t enough, the staff go out of their way, to a man, to get to know the clients and make sure they have everything they need to have the best holiday. The barman that brought my parents their pre dinner G&T knew everything about them, had their drinks ready before they even asked and spent a bit of time chatting with them and other customers as he went about his work with a smile on his face.
I enjoyed a meal in the hotel restaurant on more than one occasion too and found the food to be of a high standard with a great range of choice. Again, the staff couldn’t be more helpful. The only thing that you will find yourself scratching your head about when it comes to the Garbi is your bill at the end of your stay. Unbelievable value for what you get and no doubt one of the many factors that ensures that the hotel is full throughout every season. 2012 is fast approaching and if anyone wants my tip on where to base themselves for their Ibiza adventure, look no further!
One of the main advantages when considering the Garbi, however, remains the location, smack bang in the middle of the islands most prominent area, a short walk to the world famous Space nightclub, where DJs and producers from throughout the clubbing community descend during the season. Directly opposite Space is the recently launched Ushuaia, where daytime parties have returned to the island. A short stroll along the beach fro the Garbi in either direction results in the finest English breakfast, Sunday Roast or Premiership football match in JD’s or a relaxing sun lounger and some delicious sushi in Nassau Beach. Across the road from the hotel running parallel is Shardana, an Italian restaurant popular with music industry big wigs, DJs and anyone else in the know and up the street a little further you will find the Ibiza home of world famous Manchester clubbing establishment Sankeys.
