With their high-end editorials and beautifully designed pages, each issue of Ibiza Style magazine is not only a guide to what’s hot on the island, but also a veritable work of art. And this weekend, the eye-catching and instantly recognisable 2016 covers, as well as some of the editorial photography featured inside the publication, were honoured with an exhibition at the Gatzara Suites in Santa Gertrudis.

Having chosen the venue not only because of its location in the famous ‘village’ at the heart of the island, but also because the new accommodation makes for a perfect gallery space with its modern and bright interiors, editor-in-chief Juergen Bushe, art director Mart Storck, photographer Jordi Cevera and artist Marcos Torres invited friends, collaborators and guests to join them and find out more about their creative partnership over a glass of wine and some delicious Iberican ham.

With the usual headlines and captions removed, and blown-up to impressive size, the colourful cover images were allowed to shine in their own right, with the bright hues bouncing off the white walls. Juxtaposing the black and white photography of Jordi with the different textures and vibrant shades added by Marcos Torres, the pieces celebrate the traditional and modern facets of island life.

Jordi told us, “Marcos is a friend of mine and together with the Ibiza Style team we came up with the concepts for the five different covers. We wanted to focus on the real Ibiza, elements like the sunset and the fields but also the history of the island, for example the old fishermen. It is super easy to put a beautiful model or a DJ on the cover, but we asked ourselves, ‘What is the real Ibiza?’ and wanted to try to capture the feel of the place. And when you get an issue of Ibiza Style magazine, you can take a piece of Ibiza home with you. We are really, really happy with the outcome.”

Marcos added, “It was a really interesting experience to work with Jordi, because I have known him for a long time but it was the first we collaborated on a project. The idea was amazing, we were trying to integrate the old and the new concept of Ibiza but also Jordi’s style of photography with my colourful aesthetic. We had a lot of fun. And to see all of our work exhibited, seeing it from a new perspective that we didn’t have during the summer because we were so incredibly busy, is great. I think we did a good job.”

Esteban Lucci of Immaculate Sounds provided an ambient soundscape for the evening that perfectly fitted the creative nature of the evening. Reliving many fond memories of the busy season captured in the pages of Ibiza Style, it felt wonderful to look back over the summer of 2016 showcased in such a beautiful and imaginative display.
