Fiesta Del Agua

Posted on July 28, 2012

Friday night in San Antonio and after a day where the temperature threatened to hit a peak for the summer so far the best place to go to cool down has got to be Fiesta Del Agua. The Es Paradis water party has been soaking tourists and locals indiscriminately for years, offering a party focused on fun that doesn’t take itself too seriously and which fills the club with water before the end. The tip is to make sure that you leave the designers threads in the house and opt for sensible but stylish. Nowadays, when there are almost as many designer swimwear brands available, you can look great, even if you’re dressed for the beach!

As the clubbing capital, Ibiza plats host to numerous cool label parties or has a monster club brand pitching up on the island throughout the summer on every night of the week, which is amazing and is what gives the island that USP, especially to clubbers but there are also enough parties on the go that offer amazing entertainment, loads of fun and which don’t cost the earth to get into. Fiesta Del Agua is probably the most famous of these. The weekly water party in Es Paradis has been running as long as the longest club night, offering a slightly different experience to the massive club nights around the island. Fully aware of what’s in store we make sure we grab a few refreshments along the way, in preparation for the madness.

San Antonio is bursting at the seams, it’s late July and the invasion of clubbers and party people from around the world is in full effect. The numerous boat parties that have been out on the Med have arrived home safely and full of crazy tourists, giving the centre of the town a real carnival atmosphere. Having spent a bit of time on the sunset strip we make our way towards Es Paradis, via Plastik and Pukka Up bar. Everywhere is mobbed and the chosen attire for the evening is cool t-shirt and bright shorts for the boys and bikinis and high heels for the girls, only in Ibiza! Getting the outfit right for Fiesta Del Agua is one of the most important factors, it is going to be drenched later so it has to be sensible (ish).

On our way to the club we can’t help but have a laugh at the expense of some of the Fiesta Del Agua virgins, dressed head to toe ion their best gear, the clue is ion the names guys, you might look great, but by five AM you are going to regret wearing those nice Gucci loafers to the club. Es Paradis is filling up nicely by the time we get inside and with the stream of people that we passed en route, it promises to be yet another busy one. The crowd is a mixture of Spanish locals and tourists and has a real cosmopolitan feel to it, with the emphasis on fun. This isn’t a party to stand in the corner and nod to the latest nugget fro Hot Creations, it’s all about the fun. From the tunes that are booming out of the soundsystem to the people that frequent it, there is not a single attitude in the room, apart from the one that says get involved!

Fiesta Del Agua is similar to most parties in that for most of the night the music is booming and people are dancing and enjoying themselves but there is an extra element of expectation because at some point in the night the inevitable is going to happen and change the party completely. Tonight, the witching hour is five AM and as the club starts filling up with water the roar that greets it is huge! I can’t help wbut wonder if the boy with the expensive shoes is still in the club and if so, is he now clambering for higher ground? There is no escape and everyone gets soaked. It’s almost like wearing a mask at a party, once the water comes, inhibitions seem to sneak out the side door. One you are drenched, there nothing left to do but embrace it. This simple but effective gimmick is what has made this one of the most popular parties on the island for as long as there have been parties on this island and on the evidence of tonight, it doesn’t seem to be losing any of its appeal! Outside and the pavement is full of people removing their shoes to let the extra water weight out before sludging home to dry off. Just another fun filled Friday night in Ibiza!
