It is almost tie for the 15th annual DJ awards, Ibiza’s own electronic music awards held in Pacha. Tuesday September 25 sees the DJ Awards celebrate its fifteenth birthday, a remarkable achievement. Over the course of the last 15 years DJ Awards has honoured some of the worlds finest DJs and producers as well as the people that make Ibiza what it is. They have shone the spotlight on those behind some of the biggest parties, the finest performances and the biggest tunes of each season, making it an awards ceremony that many of the DJs like to attend, even if they are not scheduled to be on the island that night.

The line up of the nominees and categories for the 2012 awards has been hotly anticipated and has just been announced. With the help of some of the major players in the electronic scene, including managers, labels, promoters and writers as well as the DJs themselves, the list has been compiled and the voting is ready to commence. This season sees voters being automatically entered into a draw to win an invitation to the event itself.
There will be 10 music genre categories, in which the voting public decided which of their favourites will be awarded the coveted Kryptonite award, there is also 10 special Industry Awards, which will be presented during the ceremony and which are decided by a selected panel. Each year, the DJ’s seek to push the parameters of their genre, often creating sub-genres, with that in mind, new to the list for 2012 is Electronic Live Performance, whilst Urban now goes into the more defined category of Dubstep/Bass. Voting for the awards is now open at www.djawards.com.

Created in 1998, the non profit making organisation behind the DJ Awards has become a much anticipated event on the Ibiza calendar, supporting the scene and showcasing many of the artists who go on to become major players in Ibiza. Many of the stars who have picked up Kryptonite awards over the years have gone on to grace the DJ booths of the island’s super clubs. Winners include the likes of David Guetta, Carl Cox, Tiesto, Luciano, Armin Van Buuren, Pete Tong, SHM, 2Manydjs, Sven Vath, Loco Dice and Madness, to name only a few. This year sees the DJ Awards take over Pacha after the ceremony for their own dedicated after party, featuring some special guests and live performers to be announced shortly…
