DC10 is arguably Ibiza’s most notorious party, and Circo Loco, the Monday night party is as crazy as it gets! It started life as a daytime party but in recent times has been restricted to a late afternoon opening, most other parties would have evolved into a normal night time party but not Circo Loco and certainly not the loyal Circo Loco fanbase, which regularly packs the club before the sun has gone down. Looking at the line up tonight, it’s not hard to see why the club is packed early doors today, from 6pm until 10 on the terrace, a certain Carl Cox is delivering a special house set. Now, I may be biased, but does Mr Cox deliver any type of set that isn’t special?
The scene has been set from the off as the anticipation builds in the capacity crowd as carl Cox gets set to take his place behind the terrace booth. The floor is packed, the atmosphere is already building and we’re not even three hours into the clubbing marathon. Tonight’s bill also includes Cirillo, Seth Troxler, Tania Vulcano, Cassy, Kerri Chandler, Tuccilo, Art Department and Damian Lazarus, to name only a few! In football terms, if it were the Champions League, it would be the group of death as every big hitter on the electronic stage descends on DC10 for one of the parties of the season and in a place like Ibiza, that is saying something.
With the talent on show, it’s no wonder that the club has reached capacity early on in the proceedings but it also clear that many have come to hear Carl Cox deliver a special house set as the Terrace is bulging at the seams! Having witnessed Carl deliver an amazing set to celebrate his anniversary at Space last summer and then again on the Beach at Sands, there is no doubt that he has the ability to flit between genres, choosing techno and soul and funk in the two previous parties mentioned. Tonight, he dips into the house vault and is dropping some amazing nuggets on an appreciative crowd. That’s probably the best thing about playing to the DC10 faithful, they leave any musical preconceptions at the door and enter, trusting that they will be entertained and educated, possibly in equal measure.
In the main room, it is really going off, Circo Loco veteran Cirillo is conducting the huge crowd, delivering a trademark set of underground nuggets. As one of the original residents he can’t help but smile when he looks out at what the party has become. From the early days when they let everyone in for free to a monster that is full week in and week out throughout the summer, not to mention touring across the world and indeed spreading the gospel across numerous nights in the famous venue who started with only one night per week. As Clive Henry joins him in the booth, we decide it’s time to down tools and get involved in the party!
By now DC10 is heaving, it’s difficult to move from room to room and on a night when so many talented DJs/ producers are spread across the venue, it can be a little frustrating, but only a little. No matter where you decide to camp, the talent on show is top drawer, there’s no other medium where so many of the finest exponents of their craft can be gathered in the one place and on a Monday no less!
