July saw a group of hopeful DJs from around the world arrive on the island for the final of the Burn Studios Residency competition. Eleven hopefuls attended the DJ bootcamp on the island with the aim of winning one of three residencies at some of the island’s legendary venues. In a dramatic final at the Sonic Vista Studios in Ibiza the three winners were announced. Urban Jeram, 27 year old DJ from Slovenia will take control of the turntables in the world’s biggest club, Privilege. Adam Zasada, an 18 year old turntablist fro Pooland will play in Café Mambo, alongside some of the world’s biggest DJs and finally Manu Vulcano, a 27 year old from Spain will take up residency in underground sensation Sankeys.
Earlier in the week al of the contestants had taken part in a tough but ultimately rewarding bootcamp, held at the Sonic Vista Studios, where some of the biggest naes in electronic music mentored the would be stars. Established DJs and producers such as Jamie Jones, 2ManyDJs, Sasha, Luciano, Carl Craig and Richie Hawtin all gave up their time to share their wisdom and knowledge of what it takes to make it on the biggest electronic stage. There was also an impromptu visit from global chart topper David Guetta.
“It was an absolute pleasure working with the guys this past week,” said Arthur Velasquez, agent and manager of Cassius and chief mentor to the Residency contestants. “They could not have been more excited by the opportunity and were eager to learn as much as they could. I’d like to congratulate all of the finalists for getting this far and Urban Jeram, Adam Zasada and Manu Vulcano on winning. I’ve got no doubt they’ll use this platform to launch their careers into the stratosphere.”
