Our trusty fashion editor, Charlotte Kennedy, has spent the summer travelling the length and breadth of the island checking out fashion shows, talking to designers and coming across new boutiques, making sure the Essential Style platform keeps you all informed of what’s hot on the island. It was only fair that she should take a night off from those duties and, with her mum in town, head to Sunset Ashram to check out one of the finest dining experiences on the island…

Sunset Ashram sits on the western tip of the Island on the beautiful bay of Cala Conta, with panoramic views of the west coast; it is a little slice of heaven. I have spent many summer afternoons catching the sunset here, for me, it is the most important part of my day. I am a true sunset worshipper, often traveling from north to south to find the perfect spot, but I have to say Sunset Ashram treats you to the best pink skies on the White Isle, hands down!
Sunset Ashram encompasses all it is to be at peace with the sea, sand, sun and the moon and I had my mama with me this week, the apple doesn’t fall to far from the tree, and my earth mother loved every part of our Sunset Ashram experience. From the fabulous beach boutique all the way to the to-die-for cheese cake. We arrived at seven, and were seated overlooking the breathtaking bay. Sunset Ashram is a wondrous circular restaurant adorned in over-sized shell wind chimes, with a wooden roof that serves as the largest bohemian parasol you ever did see! We started off with some cocktails, a selection of a perfect Piña Colada and sensational Strawberry Daiquiri.

For our starter we were treated to different freshly baked breads, pitas and humus, with a selection of cheeses, a tantalizing journey for our taste buds had begun, with a dash of sweet, and a touch of spice this dish was the perfect start to our Sunset Ashram experience. As we watched the sun dip under the Mediterranean sea we were just about ready for our mains, when the live music started. Sunset Ashram plays live music throughout the week by a selection of local artists. Friday night is the sound of Baramji & Elea, a chilled set of Balearic beats mixed with soft vocals made for the perfect background lull while we dined in style. The night sky was now lit up by the moon glistening on the water creating a silvery ripple as far as the eye could see. My mama and I were enjoying the magic of the White Isle in, what is now, my new favourite restaurant!
Sunset Ashram serves up a perfect harmony of MediterrAsian food with an option for Sushi if you wish. I indulged in a Jon Dory fillet with a risotto of sun dried tomatoes, kaffir lime leaves, asparagus and coriander allioli. My fillet was delicious! An array of flavours hitting my palette and the risotto may just have been one of the best I have ever had, a spoon full of this risotto and you will find yourself drifting off to the depths of Italy.

My mama went for the beef option, a fillet of beef marinated in balsamic and olive oil with baby potatoes and baby vegetables in herb butter served with a red wine reduction. The beef was melt in your mouth delicious, and the baby vegetables were seductively succulent, crunchy with a sweet little kick. My mama’s fav; a miniature Aubergine piled perfectly on top of the veg stack with deep fried bean sprouts. The shell adorned booths started to fill up and the hippy honeys were up on their feet dancing to the Balearic beats. To keep the sunset worshippers of this ashram entertained, we were treated to a belly dancing lady who danced round all of the tables. My mama and I were entertained all evening. This is a restaurant with the perfect ambience, a place to come with friends, lovers or to share a wonderful meal with a wonderful mum. I can honestly say my evening at Sunset Ashram was my favourite evening of all the summer. The spirit of Ibiza is most definitely captured on this western bohemian shore.
