Blue Marlin is a brand name synonymous with a luxury beach experience, whether it is in Ibiza on Cala Jondal or in the UAE, Blue Marlin Ibiza conjures up images of beautiful people enjoying VIP service in luxurious surroundings. After the successful launch of the UAE operation early in 2012, Blue Marlin Ibiza set about adding yet another first class destination to its Ibiza portfolio and Blue Marlin Marina was born. The stunning bar/ restaurant occupies prime real estate on Marina Botafoch, just a stone throw from Lio and offers a relaxed atmosphere in which to enjoy a drink or sample some fine dining. Tonight, as Jo Mills makes her debut in the bar, we have been invited to check out the extensive menu for ourselves.

It hasn’t been the best day weather wise and as we arrive in the Marina, the rain has started falling again. Blue Marlin Marina is equipped with huge parasols, which provide shade during the summer and cover on a night such as this, with cool garden heaters already blasting out heat, we still enjoy our meal al fresco. There something quite dramatic about enjoying food outside while rain bounces of the street with the Dalt Villa still visible as a haze in the distance. When it comes to location, the Blue Marlin brand certainly has an eye for a view! The restaurant is not at its usual capacity due to the inclement weather but something tells me that the attention to detail and friendly attitude of the staff is not something that is weather dependent. They are helpful with our meal choices and are generally on hand immediately whenever we need anything.

With a bottle of rose ordered, we turn our attention to the starters, mozzarella cheese with anchovies, tomato and toasted almonds, salad of scallops with herb butter and prawns stew with orange and warm lobster salad with avocado, mustard vinaigrette and fresh cilantro. Before our starters arrive the chef treats us to a little appetiser, a triangle of deep fried goats cheese with what tastes like strawberry jam, delicious! With it not being the busiest night he has had to cope with, the chef turns round the starters pretty quickly and in no time at all we are enjoying our choices. The food is perfect, from the presentation to the explosion of taste, it’s not difficult to see why this has been a popular addition to the Ibiza’s ever-growing fine dining experiences.

Blue Marlin Marina is perfect for all occasions, whether it’s an early coffee, lunch or a late night meal, on one side we can see some of the huge yachts as they bob up and down in their mooring, across the water the Dalt Villa strikes a stunning pose and through the other side of the restaurant there is a comfortable area which enjoys views across the rest of the marina. Once again the chef delivers a food care package as we wait for the main courses to arrive, this tie in the shape of a salmon parcel wrapped around herb butter, yet another complimentary flavour combination. As we discuss the price of some of the crafts in front of us, thoughts turn to our arriving main courses, turbot fillet with prawns and mushrooms, duck breas with cumquat, ginger and celery pure and beef tenderloin with sautéed foie gras and 5 spiced sauce. The beef tenderloin is cooked to perfection and almost melts I my mouth and everyone has a similar glowing report for their own food choice.

As Jo Mills starts her set, more people start arriving for dinner and drinks, it seems that even the terrible weather can’t keep people away from Blue Marlin Marina. Cool souls and funk mixed effortlessly with old and new house makes for a great atmosphere. Blue Marlin Marina has invited Jo Mills to play every Sunday, launching November 4, to accompany their Sunday Buffet, so it promises to be an exciting winter on the Marina. As I finally start to feel like there might be some space in my stomach once again, Simone deliver three desserts, crepe suzette, crème brulee and chocolate cake. Why is it that no matter how full you feel after an amazing meal, you can always find that little bit of extra space to accommodate something sweet? After the final course is well and truly taken care of, washed down with some rich, tasty coffee, we say our goodbyes and head back into the storm. Blue Marlin Marina is a great spot to spend some time, we enjoyed a delicious meal this evening and look forward to our next encounter, the launch of the Sunday Buffet sounds like the perfect opportunity!
