Sands on Playa D’en Bossa has always been a great spot to relax, hang out, grab some food and catch the odd high profile party but 2012 has seen it up its game quite considerably. Safehouse Management and Carl Cox became partners in the popular beach bar/ restaurant last year and have shelved their Come Together party in Space to free up more time to concentrate their efforts on the beach. Now in its fourth year, Sands is a major player on the stretch of sand that is being compared more and more to Miami’s South Beach.
The season is just starting to get into full swing and already the list of talent that has graced the DJ booth on the beach would make most clubs proud, Carl Cox, Seth Troxler, Maceo Plex, Just Be (Bushwacka!) Charlie Hedges (Kiss FM), Igor Marijuan (Ibiza Sonica), DJ Ants, DJ Mosey and Steve Mulder, to name only a few. There is a state of the art Funktion 1 soundsystem to be installed, which will be music to the ears of some of the brands that have signed up to host weekly parties throughout the summer, Tuesday sees Future Disco take over the booth with Beach House on Fridays and Sands Loves Soul on Sunday. There will also be a few special events, who could forget Carl Cox’s birthday from last summer! Still on the music tip, the Sands album is now finished and available, ‘Sounds From The Beach’ offers a snapshot into what makes Sands a special destination.
Next up on the music calendar is another one of those special events as Norman Jay brings a flavour of his legendary Good Times party to the beach with a four hour set on July 19. Norman Jay MBE is one of the UK’s genuine DJ legends, coming to prominence back in the halcyon warehouse party days, he has remained relevant and innovative throughout his career. Good Times is one of the highlights of the Nottinghill Carnival and his unique insight into soul, funk and rare groove will provide the perfect sound track for a day at the beach. Essentialibiza HQ is buzzing about this one!
Dragging ourselves away from music and for those that prefer their beach experience without a four-four beat, Sands has introduced a brand new dining concept for 2012, Chefs On Tour. The beach restaurant throw open its kitchen to five internationally renowned chefs who will be cooking three nights a week, giving you the opportunity of tasting world class cuisine from kitchens around the world, without having to leave the island. Tim Payne, Damian Allsop, Simon Wadham, Paul Wadham and Andy Needham will appear throughout the season, starting on July 26 with Tim Payne. It is exciting times on Playa D’en Bossa beach as the new regime roll out their ideas, summer 2012 promises to one to remember.
