The bright blue shade the April skies have been treating us to recently may have been slightly tarnished by clouds on Easter Sunday, but as soon as we arrived at charming countryside restaurant Aubergine we were greeted by an abundance of colours brightening up the day. Nestled into the vegetable and fruit plantations between Santa Gertrudis and San Miguel, the picturesque venue dazzled with its floral displays in all the colours of the rainbows from the moment we arrived, and, on Easter Sunday, the traditional Ibicencan building’s gardens were overflowing with white marguerites.

Welcoming guests for a day of great food, music, Easter activities, fashion and art, a colourful market had been set up in Aubergine’s spacious yard tempting us to shop with the unique and eye-catching creations on offer. From patchwork hats to statement jewellery, boho dresses to leather handbags, vegan beauty products and deli items, it was hard to resist the eclectic variety luring us to take something home. For the summer season, the foodie destination’s own boutique is in the process of being set up, offering everything from homemade jams to fragrant candles and books, artisan straw bags and fashion items.

With its relaxed ambience, spacious gardens and natural beauty, Aubergine is the perfect place to spend quality time with family and friends, and the venue was bustling with happy faces and little ones playing in the grounds on Easter Sunday. Ibicencan live band Ibossim Flamenco was wowing guests with their powerful vocals and guitar sound, performing a mix of songs that were at times energetic and infectious, and soulful and emotive at others. We picked up a fresh juice made with strawberries, banana and coconut water, and a life-reaffirming black coffee, and sat down on a sofa underneath one of the trees to soak up the atmosphere. Even the family pets that had been brought along for the day looked utterly chilled out as their owners used the opportunity to mingle and catch up with friends after the winter season.

With dining tables set up underneath a canopy framed by Aubergine’s vegetable and flower patches, guests were tucking into a special three-course Easter menu starring a traditional and succulent lamb course, visibly relishing the tasty food and beautiful surroundings. The culinary offering at the eco-conscious venue has always been something special, made with love and the fresh, organic produce that goes straight from its own fields to the table. Even the most deceptively ‘simple’ dishes burst with colours and explode with flavours, offering a multitude of choices for vegans and vegetarians, but also some mouth-watering options for meat lovers.

With celebrations in full flow, parents could relax with a glass of organic wine in hand knowing that their little ones were safely watched over and entertained in the Kids Area, where they could paint their own Easter eggs before taking part in a fun egg hunt around the spacious and colourful gardens of Aubergine. With laughter ringing in the air and happy faces all around, a magical day came to a close that showed once again why Aubergine is such a wonderful destination to visit any day of the week.
